nbc 10's andrea kline thomas checked on their work. >> reporter: if you follow the hum of the wood chipper, it leads straight to grange street, where residents continue to assess the damage after friday night's storm. >> you see my truck windshield that was parked in the driveway. >> reporter: the powerful winds snapped branches off the tree, heaving them onto their roof. >> blew from that side of the tree and lay completely across the house. >> reporter: residents say they got an emergency alert on their phones. and within a minute, the storm was here. they described it as straight line winds that headed up this side of grange street. residents continue to accounted for now mingled belongings that may have blown away. >> waking up this morning and getting a good look, what was that like? >> that was worse. that was worse. like what could have happened. what could have been worse. >> reporter: perspective provides comfort. no one was injured, and property damage is isolated. but it can still be shocking to have to pick up the pieces. >> i took pictures, and itches just amazed at how much t

nbc 10's andrea kline thomas spoke to local businesses and joins us live with more. what did you find out? >> reporter: we went to different restaurants and most owners described the weekend as slow. some even called business horrible. the controller is blaming the city's administration and telling them what they should do differently. the idea of pope francis making a historic trip to philadelphia had area businesses preparing for crowds. >> having the pope come was very, very exciting. just because you think, well, you're going to have -- the restaurant's going to be packed every day, all day, because of the amount of people coming to philadelphia. >> reporter: hundreds of those of people did come. but many restaurant owners had to watch as droves just walked by. >> the people that came to see >> reporter: la castana restaurant is not alone. by that sunday employees had to hand ow out flyers hoping business will come through its doors. 90 of the 108 businesses that responded to a survey said they lost money during the papal weekend. >> they packed lunches. they ate
