late this afternoon the veteran cop that oversaw the entire investigation spoke with our andrea mccaren. we've got more on that and something else that happened earlier today, andrea? >> reporter: yes, very interesting, lesli. outside the apple store in bethesda where employees heard jay that murray's -- jana murray's call for help and rejected to call 911. someone laid out flowers depicting the number of injuries that murray endured at the hands of brittany norwood. >> somebody was extremely agitated and that this was a personal attack. >> reporter: the montgomery county police captain came up with one of the most horrendous crimes he has ever investigated in the 22 years with the department. and the suspected motive, no excuse for the savage attack. >> i believe that she really felt like she did not want to be accused of or looked at as someone that had potentially stolen from the store. >> reporter: the web of lies unraveled within days of the crime. >> at the point where she let us know that she had come in to the police headquarters and had denied ever being inside her vehicle. >>
