we've been joined here in our new york studios by andrea mitchell. she joins amy and joyce vance, two former feds who are here with us today bearing witness to this hearing. joyce, i thought i would begin with you. talk about what you've witnessed so far today. >> dr. ford was an incredibly credible witness. she had a very honest presentation. one of the issues that people look for when a witness testifies is do they come across as believable? whether it's because of the words they use or the body language. everything here indicates trust worthiness and i suspect the women all across the country feel as though this could be their best friend testifying about something that happened to her. nothing here looked forced. nothing looked made up. every indication was that this was trust worthy testimony. >> amy was saying she might be the most unpackaged witness in the history of televised hearings. >> yes, if you remember back to when we were watching brett kavanaugh testify. he seemed credible answering republicans questions and when he was questioned by

andrea mitchell? >> well, you know, garrett's right there and he's seeing it and witnessing it in real time. lindsey graham has been the president's bodyguard on capitol hill for quite some time, which was a quick conversion, as senator mccain became more and more indisposed and eventually passed. lindsey graham has defended president on almost every issue. it's raised a lot of questions in broader circles. i was part of an interview with senator kennedy from louisiana, and he said, even though he was supporting kavanaugh, he said, i'm going to keep an oop oppen i want to see what she has to say. we both afterwards said this guy can be persuaded by an effective testimony. so i think that, you know, mitch mcconnell is absolutely planning to, you know, plow ahead, as he said, and rally his troops, but they had a very, very long tuesday caucus meeting, much longer than their usual lunches. we know from subsequent reporting that there were some members of the senate caucus who were saying we've got to get

i think andrea mitchell referenced that earlier in the broadcast, and so the reporting that i have gathered is that even before we went into this hearing there were -- there was still potentially a larger universe of republicans who could be swayed by that and that universe, if anything, has grown over the last couple of hours. do i think we obviously have to hear from judge kavanaugh. the people when we're reaching out to these key offices. that's what we're hearing back. the hearing is not over and still have to finish and get to the end of it, but i think that we could know pretty quickly in the wake of this whether the momentum and the pressure is still there to push him through. they have a lot more frankly to get over now than they did before. >> all right. >> thank you. >> we're looking at that hallway and will put that shot up again and that's where we expect to see judge kavanaugh in just a few minutes. in fact, we'll leave that up as we bring in hallie jackson right now. you think about a day where it's facts and emotion and it's politics all coming together under a very tight dea
