. >> and i'm andrea nakano. crews had hoped to gain the upper hand on the fires as winds died down.unced, forcing more people from their homes. so far, crews are making great progress on two of the large wildfires and more help is on the way. today governor gavin newsom announced the doubling of california national guard service members in los angeles. now 1,680 members are in the area. so far at least 13 people are dead and 19 have been arrested for breaking curfew. at least five are dead in the palisades fire with more than 22,000 acres burned there. the blaze is now 11% contained. despite calming weekend winds, officials worry the palisades fire could cross over i-405 and into more densely populated areas in the hollywood hills and san fernando valley. this map shows the wide reach of the inferno's impact. the perimeter is marked in orange. it grew at least 1,000 acres overnight, expanding the areas under evacuation orders, which are in red. the areas under warnings are in yellow. they extend into brentwood and encino, which are considered more densely populated. students at ucla

. >> and i'm andrea nakano. >>> for the second year in a row, oakland's menorah has been vandalized. >> it wasn't a great paint job. here they painted again, and this was after it was repainted. >> reporter: the rabbi of the center for jewish life of oakland is showing us these antisemitic messages covering the menorah, steps away from the display put up here for the last 19 years during hanukkah. >> it's been going on since october 7thall over oakland. wherever you go, you see this. they're hurtful. >> reporter: the rabbi says community members reported the first antisemitic message, and then more. but on the last day of hanukkah, the antisemitic messages reappeared. >> last year the menorah was broken into pieces and thrown into the lake. we were able to find local volunteers to put it together piece by piece and displayed it outside the center. >> reporter: the volunteers are with the oakland jewish alliance where they work to remove antisemitic vandalism from the community. >> we feel specifically targeted. it feels like we're alone in this endeavor. >> reporter: the founder of o

our andrea nakano has the latest on that. >> reporter: valley vista mobile home community is for those 55 and over. jerry moved here last july. >> it was just a shock. so quiet out here. >> reporter: it is an extremely safe neighborhood. but it is not the first time she has seen police respond to her neighbor's house. >> they have been there a couple of times. they just pulled up and went in. >> reporter: this time, santa rosa police arrived at the monarch court home 3:00 in the afternoon. police say they knew something was wrong and forced themselves in. that's when they found four people dead inside. investigators were asked by a worried relative to check in on the residence. >> we do know it was several days based on the information from the reporting party who had not heard from at least two of the individuals. >> reporter: sergeant patricia says investigators are in the process of figuring out what happened. at this point, she couldn't release the ages, names, and the relationship of the four victims. police do say all of the victims are adults. residents have been shaken by this

. >> i'm andrea nakano. >>> crews in southern california are racing against the clock and mother nature to make as much progress as they can on the deadly wildfires before more strong winds move in this week. >> the total area of the fires that have burned now more than 62 square miles, larger than san francisco at 49 square miles. the palisades fire has sent 23,000 acres up in smoke with still only 13% containment. the eaton fire is at over 14,000 acres with 27% containment. >> the death toll is now up to 24. 16 deaths are connected to the eaton fire and the other eight to the palisades. there are still at least 16 more people missing. 150,000 are still under evacuation orders across l.a. county. authorities are expecting that all those numbers will keep rising with those santa ana winds returning. l.a. county fire chief anthony marrone explains. >> conditions that night were unbearable. it was a devil wind that came out, you know, that extreme santa ana wind condition. thousands of burning embers this size and bigger being transported by that wind and that smoke column. >> darren is h
