i'm andrea roane. while you can't tell it yet, we are in a red alert day for dangerous weather. howard is here to explain what is about to roll into the metro area. >>> later on this afternoon, we're watching for some storms that will come through. they could have winds gusting to 50 miles an hour. this is quiet right now but this is it here in kentucky, ohio. what we're seeing ahead of it are rain showers, moderate ones across areas of west virginia and western maryland. there's another batch of rain down south of charlottesville which will be moving northeast. in the next couple of hours, we're going to turn wetter with the scattered showers but the line of the heavy winds we're expecting maybe not till 5:00, 6:00. winds are just starting to pick up out to the west with gusts toward 30. the concern is that these winds could gust 40, even 50 miles an hour for tonight with the line of storms and also behind it, so everybody in a wind advisory between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. i'll come back in a few minutes and look more at doppler 9000 and let you know what's coming be

i'm andrea roane. most schools in the area are out of snow days after our latest winter storm. this may not be the only weather complication for the week. say it isn't so. let's get straight to first alert meteorologist howard bernstein as he tracks the next storm. howard? >> a little potential coming for friday morning. i see a little potential. still thinking it may miss us about i want to show you what's going on. we have one storm affecting big easy, mardi gras. not good for them. this area in the gulf of mexico we have to watch. this first batch of energy, that's going to slide east and stay south of us. that's not the concern. another area of low pressure will develop thursday morning over toward mississippi. it's going to move east into georgia and south carolina by thursday evening. we may get a flurry thursday with a day around 40. tomorrow looks final. friday morning, notice this pink area? that could be a mix of rain and snow and sleet. so we'll watch that potential as this does get close but also a good chance it slides east of us. for this afternoon, though, we're
