data from the second black box showing that co-pilot andreas lubitz deliberately reprogrammed the plane, putting it toward its fatal descent of 100 feet and deliberately accelerating its descent while going down. this latest information from french investigators is based on their initial reading of the flight data recorder, which was found yesterday, buried, black and burned at the crash site. let's bring in mary schiavo, a former inspector general of the u.s. department of transportation. mary, what do you make of this? this is the initial information they're getting from the flight data recorder. what's your read on what they're putting out right now? >> well, certainly it confirms what the prosecutors said basis on the cockpit voice recorder, that he was conscious, alive, that he deliberately did it. i would expect them to change it from an involuntary manslaughter to a homicide investigation and follow up from additional information from the black boxes. the flight data recorder will have all the fly controls, every movement he made in flying the plane. they'll be able to tell every

that this co-pilot 27-year-old andreas lubitz didn't just intentionally fly this plane into the french alps but that he sped up while doing it. specifically quote, he used the auto pilot to put the airplane into a descent towards an altitude of 100 feet. then on several occasions during the descent, the pilot modified the auto pilot setting to increase the speed of the airplane in descent. and investigators say he was alive and he was conscious right up until that final impact. but this is just the initial reading. we are standing by waiting for what else this flight data recorder may reveal to investigators. let's go to dusseldorf to my colleague, pamela brown, and also shawn pernicky. welcome to both of you. pamela first just on what we're reporting today, i know investigators say they were concerned. they may not have ever been able to find that second black box, and now they have it. what else are they hoping to learn from it? >> well quite frankly, brooke i think the most crucial clues as to what happened in those final moments have already been revealed. we know from the cockpit

tonight, evidence reveals andreas lubitz allegedly searched the internet for ways to commit suicide in the week leading up to the crash. the prosecutor in dusseldorf germany says a tablet recovered from lubitz's apartment also shows a recent search about cockpit doors and their security measures. a european official tells cnn the new evidence shows lubitz's actions were premeditated. a french prosecutor today said lubitz voluntarily brought the plane down. >> to prevent the overspeed alarm he would have had to have acted twice in the final minutes of the flight not only the loss of altitude but also adjusting the speed of the plane, so he was alive and conscious up until the moment of impact we are almost certain. >> reporter: investigators today finally recovered the charred flight data recorder. it was found buried in the ground. the data will include information about whether the plane was on autopilot or whether lubitz manned the controls all the way down. >> translator: the speed of the plane, the altitude the power of the engine these elements are absolutely vital in order to asc
