liz: you know the name andreessen horowitz, right?ehind the names like facebook, pinterest and groupon. they gave the money. the companies grew and became, well, you know the story. now andreessen horowitz is making a 90 million-dollar bet on security systems management company, only seven years old and called tanium. this is the firm's second largest investment ever. what does tanium do why is andreessen horowitz a big believer in the company? we bring in the recent board partner and tanium board member. steven, we're fascinated you're here to talk about it. you're a guy who picks these things very carefully. why tanium? talk about what they do. >> tanium is unbelievably cool product, what they have done, what these amazing founders have done, they found out a way to manage and secure networks of hundred of thousands of computers and data centers, scattered all around the world on your desktop and mobile and managed to find a way to instantly secure and manage them. so you can find out what is going on all over your network, just wit

a new announcement by andreessen horowitz expects to increase this year.ic payroll, health benefits, and the ceo parker joins us right now. i sort of don't care about by tuition but i am interested about when you were raising money. what did your potential investors want to know? i think what they wanted to look at was road, but more importantly it was a big valuation. we are going after a big problem. all of these companies have all these disconnected systems related to hr. as a result, there is all that paperwork and administrative hassle. what this does is it ties all of this together. it saves someone a ton of time and best of all, we do it all for free. >> free is a great model. you can sell a lot of things if you don't charge anything. >> it is like selling candy to a seven years old. we get revenue from various providers on our system. one of the big ones is insurance companies. we act as an insurance broker for a lot of our clients and get commissions on the policies that we have. the important thing is that it does not increase their costs. >> you

we were sitting with andreessen horowitz and all the partners and the members of the team. lot of experience in this space. 200 years of system management watching this demo. --y did the demo and >> that is the kid. >> he went to berkeley. he did the demo and thought it was cool. it was really fast. it was probably just a mockup of what he was planning to build once he got funding. ien, he looked and said, no, just connected to a real network of several thousand computers. this is the actual network i am talking to now. to prove it, he asked all the computers and networks to respond back with the time. very quickly, they started recording the same time of day it was. in real time, he talked to all the machines and network under 15 seconds. >> you know he is selling you something. you guys are smart investors. you've seen demos that look good and products that are bad. gh-five?hi >> this is a space we care deeply about. they have done a magical product that really is. the thing we thought is wow, there were so much we could really be part of to help the company scale up and

joining us is scott cooper with andreessen horowitz. we saw you in person just a couple weeks back.y, now, it's day two of the gopro ipo or a day after the go pro ipo. and when you think about that company. is that a hardware company, a software company? and you know, i sort of said, is it the next walkman or is it the next, i don't know, what would be the next great thing. the walkman is something you probably wouldn't think of as great. they had a nice ten-year run. what is it? >> i think it's actually embl emblematic of a resurgence of hardware wii seeing generally out here in silicon valley. and in the gopro case, they've taken a piece of hardware, and then this idea of, can we build a community arenound it and essentially monetize the community. so it's a different business model in many respects. but the thing we're seeing outside of gopro is a combination of hardware and software, where the software is differentiation for these products. so think about occulus. the parts that occulus is building are really just mobile phone parts, is what the hardware is, but the intelligence
