it's always seemed to me if andrew cuomo wants to destroy chris christie, he may be able to. we do know the new york side, across the river, is holding some cards on this thing. >> well, what we know is the unique nature of bistate agency is there's the new york side and the new jersey side. there are generally people who are sort of understood by each side to be the voice of the respective governor. cuomo speaking through pat foye. when you talk to people on the new jersey side, the impression was bill baroni had the title of deputy executive director. a title higher than david wildstein. but the impression you get when you talk to people on the new jersey side and the new york side in the port authority is, when those decisions had to be made that required gubernatorial input, that it would be david wildstein who would go and make the phone call to trenton. whether he's talking to christie, himself, or somebody, he would be -- >> he was the eyes and ears. >> right. it raises the question to me, a guy like chip michaels who knows christie better than your average port author

so-called traffic study that was only shut down because the head of the port authority appointed by andrew cuomo on the new york side, patrick foye, shut it down once he heard about it and sent an angry e-mail. in the e-mail traffic what you get from wildstein, i believe baroni, definitely wildstein is we're trying to reverse it, trying to keep it shut down. meaning it's unclear how long they intended this to go. it's possible they were going put the thumb on the scale and keep it there as long as they could. >> and the reason steve kornacki and brian murphy first started pointing at this was the financing for the development. it was actually approved in 2012, the preliminary plan. the financing was being locked up right as these closures were happening. so it seems a very sensitive moment in the project. >> you've got four people that have lost their jobs over this or had ties severed. bill stepien, former campaign manager. bridget anne kelly, deputy chief of staff. you've got david wildstein who had a sort of nondescript job at the port authority as the eyes and ears of christie and baroni. wi

new york governor andrew cuomo has called the situation dire and the suburbs outside of chicago have supplies as of the end of january. some places are getting very inventive in iowa where we were this parts of pennsylvania, folks are using sugar beet molasses and cheese brine. they have gone through 62,000 tons of road salt, 5,000 more tons than the typical winter season. in the northeast they are feeling the pinch as well. in new jersey, 277,000 tons of road salt through the end of january. that's before the two storms this week. that is 19,000 tons more than all of last season combined. still not everybody is feeling the pinch quite so badly. here in new jersey, official have been doing a really good job managing their salt supplies. behind me, 600 tons of pure uncut rock salt. they are waiting on another 400 ton delivery as well. i asked officials here if they would share with their neighbors who were harder hit. and the head of the dpw tells me, maybe. they have to think about it. >> just maybe. morgan, thank you. we asked and got a whole lot of answers. question, 2014 winter ol

patrick foye, the executive director of the port authority, who was appointed by new york governor andrew cuomo. in the e-mail foye told the agents he was reopening the lanes. the e-mail first appeared in the "wall street journal" on october 1st. foye wrote, "i believe this hasty and ill-advised decision," to close the lanes, "violates federal law and the laws of both states." the next question tonight to governor christie was about the subpoenas due today to the new jersey legislature. >> so today is the day that subpoenas were due to be answered in the legislative investigation. we know some of those who were served were granted some extensions. have you seen any of the documentation that had been gathered to this point? >> i have not. we -- the governor's office has started to produce things today. we did not ask for an extension. we started to produce documents today, but we're doing so on a rollingbase. we're working as hard as we can to get through because there was a lot of stuff asked for from us. but we didn't ask for an extension. we started today on a rolling basis to produce things

"who does foye think he is, captain america?" to which wildstein responded, "bad guy. welcome to our world." and what a welcome it was. joining me now is nbc news national investigative correspondent michael isikoff. michael, you know, i don't know that there is that -- anything that ties chris christie to bridgegate in any of these, but what is apparent is that there was a culture, a short hand for enemies and punishment that was used frequently or comfortably by members of christie's inner circle. >> exactly. this kind of varies from the sort of sinister to perhaps more juvenile. in fact, that's the word that some women wisniewski used today in describing this that just shows the sort of cavalier juvenile attitude
