so, the andrew haigh adaptation about the story of a boy and his horse. what i liked about it... was a coming—of—age story, yes, but, ithink it is more universal. i thought it looked beautiful, and i thought charlie plummer was fantastic. so much about him reminded me ofjames dean, so vulnerable, so fragile, but a real sturdiness, and the scenes with just him and the horse, and the scenes with him and steve buscemi, who i know you... they're a highlight of the film, aren't they? they were an absolute highlight of the film. i watched it as someone who knew nothing about horses and you don't really need that. no, you just need to know about loneliness and growing up and i think most people know about at least one if not two of those things. and steve buscemi is great. the movie is kind, even its darker characters it's kind to, nobody is two—dimensional or thrown away. beautiful landscapes as well, if you want that as a bonus. what about anyone who might want to watch a dvd? previous palme d'or winner, the square. the cannes film festival is on at the moment. you know i don't go. ch

i love the fact that andrew haigh, british film maker, has gone to america and shot in some deserts around by the scenery. there are moments in it when we are out in the desert, but still at the centre of it is charlie. he is in every single frame pretty much in the movie. the other thing is i like the fact that none of the characters in this film are two—dimensional. some of them seem harsh and difficult and violent, but everyone has got redeeming qualities. and they often play against type. chloe sevighny turns up as a jockey who has fallen off the horse one time too many. i can see the narrative is going to set her up as a surrogate, but it absolutely does not. i think there is a really, really terrific movie. it is dark in places. there are moments of tears in it. i mean you liked 45 years. i loved it, which is why i am going to see this. you can think of the intimate relationship thing. that is all here. i thought it was really great. i wish it was called something other than lean on pete. i wish it was called something like discovery, but lean on pete is it. don't be put off by the t
