also joining us, mitch el andrew, cnn commentator and former democratic mayor of new orleans. so good to see you as well. this week, mitchell called from katrina to ida. what has louisiana learned? welcome to both of you. mayor, let me begin with you because here you are at an effort feeding people in new orleans 16 years after katrina def devastated your city and you were not mayor at the time of katrina, but my goodness, is this eerily familiar or a completely different scene postida? >> i was a lieutenant governor at the time katrina hit. we've had a number of other hurricanes and now ida. we're here with world central kitchen, a team of chefs around the world, chef andres and his team of chefs feeding people across louisiana who are defe destitute who are suffering because of ida. you have people in the west with wildfires, tornadoes in the heartland, so they have tons of weather events. it's eerily reminiscent katrina, it happened on katrina's anniversary. >> alice, we're hearing from a lot of scientists saying the window is closed in terms of what we could have done 10, 15 years ago to avert what we're in right now. s
