i'm becky quick along with joe kernen and andrew ross sorkin. the market focus turns to job creation today. the labor department will release the may employment report. that's coming up at 8:30 a.m. eastern today. in the meantime, let's take a look at some of the systems. economists are expecting nonfarm payroll to rise by 200,000. that comes after april's surprising 288,000 jump. the adp report had a less than 200,000 number. that raises some concerns about today's report. as for the unemployment rate, that is expected to tick up slightly to 6.4%. average hourly wages are expected to rise by 0.2%. you'll see right now, the futures are indicated higher right now. the dow futures up by 25 points, s&p 500 futures up by 1.5 points, the nasdaq up by just over 4. the ten-year note and the bond market is yielding 2.566%. we have been pushing against that ceiling this week. currencies, yesterday it was the ecb decision that got things moving. the euro is slightly higher at 1.362. that's because the euro was so much weaker ahead of the news yesterday. l

i'm becky quick along with joe kernen and andrew ross sorkin. the sun is up. it has been for a long time. i think since around 4:30. let's start things out with the market. another day of record closes for the dow industrials. it was the second lowest volume session of the year. take a look at the futures this morning. you'll see red arrows at least at this point. it looks like the dow would open down by 24 points, s&p futures down by just over 3.5 points and the nasdaq down by just over 11 points. we continue to watch gold. gold falling for a sixth straight session. its longest losing street since last august. you can see this morning, it was up by $2.40, $1,246.40 an ounce. it is a relatively quiet day on the economic front. we get april factory orders at 10:00 eastern. may auto sales throughout the day. we have china economic news, the pmi which showed an increase. the market chatter is building around economic releases that come later this year, adp tomorrow. there's a key ecb meeting on thursday and the big nonfarm payroll report on friday. there is new d

andrew ross-sorkin is off today. this is a big day for us this time around. today we'll get chicago pmi and pending home sales and the dallas fed survey. tomorrow manufacturing pmi, ism manufacturing, construction spending and june auto sales. then on wednesday the adp report and factory orders. and janet yellen will speak at the imf conference. and on thursday, the big june employment report. we will get the numbers on thursday because on friday the market is closed due to the fourth of july. and international trade services, pmi, international trade and ism nonmanufacturing numbers that day as well. forecasters say the economy probably added 218,000 jobs in june to make five straight months of job gains of more than 200,000. that's something we have not seen since the end of 1999 before the dot com bubble burst. >>> the bulls are looking to close the books on a successful first half of the year. the s&p 500 is up more than 6% this year following a jump of 30% in 2013. if the market closed the year at current levels

i'm andrew ross sorkin along with joe kernen. becky is out today. we are still mulling over that tie last night between our little country and portugal. among our top story this morning, it is official, general electric is buying alstom's energy business. i think you called this right, joe. the french government backed that transaction after it secured the option. this is statism at its best. the option to buy 20% of alstom from a paris-based construction group. a lot of chatter about the back-an back-and-forth leading up to this deal. here's what jim cramer tweeted over the weekend. he said the ge saga caused ge to sit out the largest part of the rally. if you look at ge's stock, you will see exactly what he meant by that. but here's a deal where, you know, immelt goes over there, and the only way to get the deal done is the french minister says give me a piece of the action. >> it was less cash, but i don't know, i read some other commentary over the weekend that it would be less profitable near term -- >> right. >> -- than it would have been for

i'm becky quick along with joe kernen and andrew ross sorkin. the dow is coming off its biggest drop in more than a month. the economy is going to be front and center for investors today. on the agenda, we have may durable goods and a final revision to the first quarter gdp. polled economists say they expect to see a 2% decline in first quarter growth. not a huge surprise. we knew things were weak, but that would be weaker than the 1% drop in the last revision. worth watching today, treasury is going to be auctioning $35 billion in five-year notes. this comes after yesterday's stellar sale of $32 billion in treasuries. the u.s. equity futures this morning after that triple digit decline for the dow yesterday are looking a little higher, but not a lot. dow futures would open close to 12 points. s&p up by just over 1.5 points and the nasdaq up by just over two points. first, andrew has some of the day's corporate stories. good morning. >> thank you, becky. good morning to you. gopro is expected to price its ipo after the closing bell. it's expecte

i'm becky quick along with joe kernen and andrew ross sorkin. the s&p closing lower in three of the last four sessions. we've been watching the futures this morning. we see no major issues. s&p looks like they would be down by just over 4%, dow jones by just over 23 points and the nasdaq down about 6. it is a quiet day for data. the only specifics we'll be getting today is a final reading of june consumer sentiment. in asia overnight, the nikkei fell by more than 1%. for the early trading in europe at this hour, at least right now, there are some modest advances. germany up by about 14 points. ftse up by 8 points and in france, the cac up by about -- close to 10 points. in geopolitical news, we are watching the situation in ukrai ukraine. the ukrainian government warns a cease-fire with pro russian fighters would end tonight. if the two sides failed to reach a deal on last-minute talks. meanwhile, there are reports of heavy fighting around separatist strong holds in the eastern part of that country. it's a situation we will continue to watch. an

i'm becky quick along with joe kernen and andrew ross sorkin. let's start this morning with the markets. stocks getting a boost from dovish comments from the fed yesterday. the central bank suggesting that interest rates would stay slow for just about forever each as the economy recovers. >> inflation continues to run well below our objective and we're still some ways away from maximum employment. and for the moment, i don't see any tradeoff whatsoever in achieving our two objectives that those call for the same policy, maybely a highly reaccommodative monetary policy. >> so, in other words, don't look for higher rates until well into 2015. you can see this morning that the markets are barely budged overnight. we'll see what happens as we get closer into the opening bell. right now, take a look at the ten-year note. at this point, the ten-year is yielding 2.577%. still below 2.6% based on some of those dovish comments, again. on today's market agenda, we have weekly jobless claims. first time filings are expected to climb by 3,000. in addition t

i'm becky quick along with joe kernen and andrew ross sorkin. stocks bouncing around to start the week, but the bulls are quietly in control. so far this year, the dow is up 2%. the s&p has add more than 6%. and the nasdaq is higher by 5%. this morning, if you check out the futures, you'll see at this hour things are indicated lower. the dow futures indicated down by 50 points. and the ten-year at this point looks like it is yielding. 2.595%. it's still sitting just below 2.6%. we're continue to go watch gold prices. the commodity now higher four straight sessions closing yesterday at its highest level since mid april. among the tests for the markets today, we have some economic numbers coming out. then at 10:00, we have new home sales and consumer confidence. this afternoon, treasury will she auctioning $30 billion in two-year notes. and don't forget about the fed. a number of speakers today including philly president charles plosser, bill dudley and john williams. we'll be talking more about the economy in the next few minutes with strategists

andrew ross sorkin is back at cnbc's headquarters along with brian sullivan sitting in for morning, goprot $24 a share. that came in at the high end of expected $24 a range. gopro is the first consumer electronics company to ipo since the 201 1 debut of headphonesmaker skull candy. the company is expected to start trading on the nasdaq today under the symbol gpro. we'll be talking to gopro's founder nick woodman coming up at 8:30. woodman and his family are the company's biggest shareholders with the stake of 39%. he'll be joining us for a while just to talk about the cameras, where they plan to go from here, some of what you could be speccing. >> and i think you have a gopro camera there on set with you, don't you?

i'm becky quick along with andrew ross sorkin and brian sullivan. joe is off today.ges are trying to avoid back to back weekly losses. so far, it is looking pretty good for the bulls. the dow and the s&p are both on five-day winning streaks. and listen to this. today it's quadruple witching friday. i was waiting for the sound effect. it is the expiration day for stock index futures and options. single stock options and futures. maybe we'll see more volatility today. check out the u.s. equity futures at this hour. barely budging at this point, but the dow looks like it would open up by about 7.5, 8 points. s&p futures up by less than a point and the nasdaq up just over 1.5. gold posting its biggest one day percentage gain in nine months yesterday. look, it's back above $1300 at 1,311.50 an houns. right now, gold is on track to post its best weekly gain in three months. brian, welcome. it's great to have you here. >> thank you very much.

i'm becky quick along with joe kernen and andrew ross sorkin. the dow is coming off its biggest drop in more than a month. the economy is going to be front and center for investors today. on the agenda, we have may durable goods and a final revision to the first quarter gdp. polled economists say they expect to see a 2% decline in first quarter growth. not a huge surprise. we knew things were weak, but that would be weaker than the 1% drop in the last revision. worth watching today, treasury is going to be auctioning $35 billion in five-year notes. this comes after yesterday's stellar sale of $32 billion in treasuries. the u.s. equity futures this morning after that triple digit decline for the dow yesterday are looking a little higher, but not a lot. dow futures would open close to 12 points. s&p up by just over
