i'm andrew ross sorkin.y off. take a look at futures. we do have good news this morning. the dow looks like it would open up if we did it now around 60 points higher. s&p 500 up six points and the nasdaq up 14 points. let's get you through some of the global market headlines. hong kong shares had their best day in nearly six months, china's financial markets they calmed down after the central bank pledge to a credit crunch. the hang seng closed up 2.4% in its biggest one-day percentage gain since january 2. better than expected data out of germany helping stocks in europe. in the uk, finance minister george osborne expected to announce $18 billion in spending cuts but trying to temper the cuts with promises of longer term capital equipment and infrastructure projects. gold, that might be the story of the morning, losing more of its luster as it hit as three-year low this morning. brian had more on that before. bouillon is down 7 out of 8 sessions. we'll have more on the gold fall in a couple of minutes. >> i

andrew ross sorkin is off today. we're going to start things off with the markets. stocks actually starting the month off with a winning session. the dow gaining back much of the losses that it's made on friday. you can see up about 138 points. it's a gain of nearly 1%. but the bears might take note that the blue chip index has been down in seven of the last eight junes. since 2000, the year 2000, june is actually tide with september as the dow's worst month of the year. today, of course, is tuesday. and as joe mentioned, that's been good news for the bulls for the last 20 session necessary a row. the dow has ended higher for the last 20 consecutive tuesdays and that makes the longest streak in history. i think by several weeks. i think we started saying maybe three weeks ago it was the longest winning streak ever. so we'll see what happens today. at this point, if you want to check out the futures, you'll see that at least at this hour, there are some modest red arrows. down 26 points for the dow futures. s&p futures off by just over 2 1/2 points. >>> in asia joef

andrew ross sorkin is off today.ctive session in japan overnight. the nikkei actually down by 3.8%. the volatility has been off the charts. this drop today came after a speech from prime minister shinzo abe. he pledged to boost incomes by 3% annually and to set up special economic zones for trying to attract foreign businesses. today's strategy announcement was his third measure aimed at boosting growth in the world's third biggest economy. the first two arrows, as abe calls them, first up was loosening monetary policy and then boosting public spending. investors seemed to be less than impressed by today's announcement, which was expected, but they were looking for some of the details there, and that seemed to be what was the disappointment. we'll have more from kaori enjoji in a few minutes, standing by in tokyo. meantime, if you look at the trading in europe this morning, there are red arrows across the board. weakest numbers coming in london with the ftse 100 down close to 0.9%. we will also check in with ross wes
