for more on the situation, let's turn to our andrew stevens who's standing by live in hong kong. issues that popped out of that recent clash, cops apparently seen beating up one of the protesters caused a lot of anger. what's the latest information on them and what they are alleged to have done? >> welsh they're facing charges now of causing bodily harm to that protester, who is actually a lawmaker here in hong kong. legislative council member, errol. the seven police who have been charged include two superintendent superintendents and five other more junior officers. that casts another shadow across the whole relations between police and the protesters here in hong kong. it should be said the protests have generally been very, very kwai the and very peaceful. but we saw in the past 24 hours the clearing out of the mongkok protest site. the clearing out pretty much went without a hitch. only took about an hour or so to clear it out yesterday, but following that, the protesters started returning and regrouping in streets around the main cleared protest site where they again confro
