connell: it is interesting, because andy mccarthy is back with us, i think we re-established connectionanything into that, andy, in terms of a broader significance? i will point out asked the question of you, because we're following two breaking stories at once, john roberts is able to get ahold of rudy giuliani, the president's lawyer on michael cohen plea. the take on that i'm quoting, i don't think this could be better for the president's case. he thinks that cohen's straight guilty plea, the three to five years in jail we talked about already, essentially puts it behind the president. what about manafort case as you read what melissa just told you, any big read on that? >> well i think from the prosecution, colin, they got everything out of this they could hope for. they got him convicted, trying to run the numbers as melissa was reading them. it is easily 50 or 60 years of exposure. plus again he has the second trial which has, money laundering counts, i don't remember how many there were, but they are 20-year counts. so if the idea here was to get him convicted and ratchet up the

. >> i will talk to andy mccarthy about that in a minute and the documents involved as evidence.oes a conviction here boost the chances or boost the momentum behind a mueller sit-down with the president? do you see that happening? >> if this jury comes back guilty, not guilty or hung, it it would be a very bad decision for the president to sit down with bob mueller. that's a perjury trap. the president hasn't done anything wrong. he should not put himself in a position to where he just remembers something incorrectly could create a destabilizing event when the country is doing so well. focus on the economy and jobs. the conduct of the sitting president is the perview of the congress. rudy giuliani is right to fight any suspect by mueller for a presidential interview. >> you have a law background? >> yes, i was an attorney. >> what did you think about the questions from the jurors? does that tell you anything about reasonable doubt? >> if i was a prosecutor, i would be really nervous. if a jury has questions about reasonable doubt, then they are asking those questions because they

andy mccarthy is back with us. i'm so glad you stayed, andy.his also is an interesting connection to the case that you worked on, the '93 world trade bombing. we'll get to that involvement. -- in a moment. explain how we could get to this place, where three of the five defendants are released. >> well, laura, they made these arrests a couple of weeks ago, and i guess they have been investigating since, and they got to the point where they either have to charge them in an indictment or go through what they call a probable cause or preliminary hearing, and what i sense happens was they decided that two of these characters were the ringleaders and theyns appear to have ratcheted up the charges on the two of them and then decided perhaps that they couldn't make the case and the other three so they didn't go forward on those.. that doesn't mean that they can't at some future time indict them but that seems unlikely to me. >> laura: well, and are they -- i guess -- it doesn't matter if they're a flight risk, because they're not charged with anything.

once humphrey enter the race, it was almost redetermined he would be the nominee unless mccarthy or andyould convince enough delegates to change to them. in that situation where humphrey does not need to go in front of the voters least to this decision in 1968. this voicests won vote on changing the way the democratic nominee was chosen. that has completely changed our politics. the whole primary system we have now, spending years in iowa and new hampshire now, that happened because of this report commissioned, which created the more democratic system, which said the nomination be chosen by the primaries. the primaries should be binding. moderns created this primary system we have. it was something that was not really talked about much in 1968. it came about in large measure because of the way humphrey was chosen, but also because of mccarthy's campaign. one of the things mccarthy said was you need to have an outlet for people to make their voices heard. we have these five or six primaries that are binding, and most of the delegates are chosen at state conventions. one of the most import
