it is sickle cell anemia. an inherited defect in red blood cells. the sickle shaped cells are blocked from distributing oxygen. if fax other organs. the major symptoms are pain. his hands and feet had swollen and i took him to the hospital and he saidthey said sickle cell anemia. i had never heard of that. it took the lives of two of her sons. i have sickle cell ... one databanks next day not being able to even walk. diagnosed at eight months he has struggled with sickle cell for more than 20 years. the majority of the pain hits me in my legs and back. to be a young kid and not be able to play with other kids is awful. it was mental torture. it was hard pyrrhic devastating to watch your kid and you cannot do anything. doctors have little to offer. blood transfusions help but only temporarily. when a stem cell transplants study showed promise a doctor took notice they've reported that they could do it ... without chemotherapy. the used healthy donors cells that gradually take over the recipients blown bulb marrow to produce normal red blood cells. tr
