joining me now are angela rye and ryan grim. on the show tonight. >> thank you. >> thanks for having me. >> angela, let me start with you. what do you make of the president's statement that the republicans should be, quote, embarrassed by their tenure in congress? >> well, i hope he's right. i hope there are many of them that are actually embarrassed. they were elected to do a job, rev, and that is to pass legislation that would ultimately go to the senate or vice versa and be signed into law by the president of the united states. well, they're not hardly getting anything done. and as you mention, they are on track to become the least predictive congress in history. so how do you reconcile that with the job you're setting out to do? you really can't. so the fact they're calling the president the uber-president and all these other things merely distracts from the fact that they are not doing what they were elected to do. they're not elected to keep a stalemate or to ensure that the president is not successful or accomplish. we've

and angela rye. >> thanks for having me. >> alex, with all the talk about president obama being finished respond? >> well, i hate to break it to the critics here, but obama is still the president. he's still got two more years. and that's thanks to a little thing called the constitution. and the president is still the most powerful job in the world. there's a lot of things he could do that other people can't do. this seems like basic facts. but i think we need to remind people from time to time. congress is gone, but congress has been gone to him since republicans took over in 2010. that's been the case since 2009 since the stimulus package. there are tons of things he could do on cap and trade, immigration, all through the administration. and the recent changes in the rules in the filibuster is going to help him confirm nominees and judges to implement that agenda. >> you know, as alex was talking angela, not only are there things he can do despite all of the obstructionists, there are some concrete things that he has done. >> that's right. >> and as they keep acting as though he's fini

joining me now are maria teresa kumar and angela rye. th for being here. >> thank you. >> so angela, the republican candidate says the guy from "duck dynasty" is just like rosa parks. how is that going to win back african-american voters? >> well, rev, unfortunately we've seen throughout this week that there are a lot of african-american voters and supporters in their party that will defend this no matter what. whether or not it's based on any type of fact whatsoever. the unfortunate part is history will not be kind to them because it's just false. this isn't about religious persecution. we've all read history books and know that there was a time when christians were persecuted. they have to draw the little fish where they had to congregate. that's not what this guy was doing. instead of supporting his christian brothers and sisters that may have another lifestyle by loving them, he's actually persecuting and comparing said lifestyle to some very disgusti disgusting behaviors. i think furthermore when you go into black folks singing while

joining me now are krystal ball and angela rye. thank you both for being here. >> thanks for having us, rev. >> thank you. >> krystal, what will it take to force republicans to help 1.3 million americans losing unemployment benefits right after christmas? >> sadly, i don't think that we're going to see them give in on something that seems so obvious and is so badly in need. one thing that ezra is writing about this week is we've seen it go back to prerecessionary levels. but the long-term unemployed are still in a crisis. those levels of people who haven't been able to find a job and because they've been out of work for a long period of time, they have a harder time finding a job. those numbers are still really high. it's a crisis that the republicans have no answer for. they don't want to help these people. they don't have an answer for how to get them back to work. they just have no plan to deal with it at all. they think by cutting them off, in their words, that they'll have further incentive to find a job. these are people who

. >> joining me now, angela rye and chris wilson, a republican pollster. good day to both of you. his idea that manchin is bringing up with congressional democrats? >> well, we do know, as you said, this has been a point of discussion for years. what we also know is when the president initially came into office right after the 2008 election, the president's focus was on trying to fix some of the dysfunction in washington and trying to focus on policy. over time we've seen him make several changes, whether it was appointing chief of staff daly to be the relater in chief and delegating more of that to the vice president. he's done even more after he appointed chief of staff mcdonough to do more of the relationships. he started doing more golf outings and dinners. when we've seen on the other side is relationships isn't necessarily its end all, be all. he has relationships from being in senate just a little while and his manchin-toomey amendment didn't succeed because of the relationships but because of the power of the nra lobby. so it's not just relationships, it's definitely a mixt

noelle nikpour and angela rye are with me. ning. >> good morning. >> a couple of other examples, angela, the senate abandoning the filibuster. people like elizabeth warren making a case for tougher financial regulations. are liberal democrats on the move? >> i think the entire party is on the move, chris. what you have is the big tent party. historically democrats have been known to embrace folks from all walks of life. you talk about the filibuster reform, i think it's really an issue of fairness. we saw that to 86 nominees historically being filibustered for all presidential appointments, you have 82 for president obama, so this is an issue of fairness and what's just right an wrong. i hardly think that filibuster reform issue can be squarely focused as a liberal issue, it's really about fairness and equality. >> elizabeth warren is getting buzzed about as a possible alternative to hillary clinton in 2016. let me play a little bit of an interview she did with rachel maddow. >> we have a retirement crisis in america. this is n

what more can this white house do, angela rye? tide in the republican-led house. i think it's really time for speaker boehner to consider his legacy more broadly than even immigration reform and the budget deficit plan that is his team has and considering the measures that the senate looked at earlier this year. and also to think about why the president worked on over 20 executive actions to address gun safety. there are human lives at stake, whether it's from a school tragedy or a near school tragedy with miss tuft when you think about what she did. what if someone doesn't have that type of courage? it shouldn't be up to individual citizens to defend ourselves. it's time for the elected officials of this country to act. >> nela, the freedom group is the company that made the rifle that adam lanza used in the newtown massacre. it said at the time it was going to sell the firearms company. but to date, that has not happened.
