. >>> let's bring in meteorologist angie lassman. day weekend? >>> you mentioned the triple threat as far as weather impacts over the next couple of days and you are right. we have the air quality also to talk about. let's start there. we have numerous people under unhealthy air quality at this time. pittsburgh, buffalo, extending out to new york. new york coming in at 169 on the air quality index right now. so, again, the air quality not great. we will start to slowly see some improvements here as we go through the next couple of days. we will get some showers working through. that clears out the air, and we will see the winds change pushing the smoke away from us. improvements on the way for the weekend but we're not there yet. when it comes to the heat priscilla was just talking about, 66 million people are under the alerts. you can see they extend through parts of the gulf coast into the ohio valley and towards the southwest, all thanks to high pressure that created a heat dome and continues to trap in all of the heat and continue

. >>> time now for the weather and let's go to meteorologist angie lassman for the forecast. o take forever. how's the weekend looking? >> you know what we started hurricane season yesterday. remember i told you that, and we've gone off in full force. that trupical depression already formed in parts of mexico. it means a soggy weekend for the state of florida. the winds right now 30 miles per hour and looking unorganized, but we could see it become a tropical storm maybe in the next couple of hours. if not, doesn't really matter. not going to change the forecast a whole lot for florida as it continues to move south and east in cuba. it does mean we'll see multiple rounds of heavy rain for the sunshine state over the weekend. you can see localized amounts upwards of 5 inches. concerning conditions for maybe flooding across the state. it's really up and down the state. also we dealt with flooding up and down the plains yesterday. we'll have another round with more heavy rain expected for folks there. and it's not just the heavy rain but also the severe storms we could watch deve

. >>> so let's bring in meteorologist angie lassman now. going to see some improvements. they don't come immediately especially for the north east and midwest because we're still getting smoke coming in. let's take a look at the scenes yesterday. looks like mars, i heard it looks like the scene from "blade runners." you can see exactly what we're dealing with in places like the airports. conditions will improve as we mentioned, but let's see how long. as we look at exactly what your satellite shows yesterday we still had that low pressure hanging around and kinding winds out of the north east. that was ushering in the thickest smoke in places like new york city. we still have 100 million people impacted by this air quality toopd just strictly due to the wildfire smoke. the worst of it places to delaware to southern new york where we're seeing hazardous to unhealthy air that means everybody likely going to be impacted today with the itchy eyes, sore throats. everyone who has respiratory issues as well, philadelphia coming in at 406 for air q

. >>> now i want to bring in meteorologist angie lassman.rous heat, and you're also tracking a new system in the south? >> yeah, a tropical system. we started hurricane season yesterday. we're only one day in, but we're already dealing with one system that's going to impact the state of florida indirectly over the next couple of days. let me give you the details. it is a tropical depression, tropical depression 2. the winds 35 miles per hour. you see this blob of rain, it's pretty unorganized. we initially expected it to become a tropical storm, it doesn't really look like that's going to happen. the window for it at least is closing as we go through the rest of the morning and the afternoon hours. either way it's moving south at 5 miles per hour, and it's going to indirectly bring a lot of heavy rain and multiple rounds of those tropical downpours to the state of florida. here's the track of the system. it will eventually start to move a little more southerly and southeasterly, and parts of western cuba, bringing them some rain. for the sta
