let's turn to nbc meteorologist angie lassman who's tracking those systems. hi, angie. >> if you maybe are hidedeaded k to work in texas, don't forget the rain gear. the good news is with this system we're not going to look at any real impacts when it comes to severe weather. it's mainly just going to be rain the system will work its way a little further to the east, impacting folks along the gulf coast. we could see potentially heavy rain, especially across portions, really stretching from places like new orleans out to houston. so heads up for that over the next couple days meanwhile, out west we have another storm system that's just going to bring ample amounts of rain and snow and wind washington to central california is where we'll watch for the biggest impacts. winter alerts are up for some of the mountain ranges. it could be difficult for travelers as this system works farther to the east. as we get intoou y40s for st. l. plenty of sunshine in denver 48 degrees and omaha, 37 with partly cloudy skies, and that's a look at your forecast, frances, back to

let's go to meteorologist angie lassman. oh, my god, it was brutal yesterday, angie.rocky indeed when it comes to weather. good morning. i do have good news for you kind of. we're going to see a couple more systems behind this system that left us dealing with so much in the past 24 hours. but the system that is still bringing rain across portions of of the north east is on its way out. notice we still have some of those stronger winds on the backside of this, and it's keeping some snow in the forecast. we've got 46 million people still under these flood alerts. we've got a couple of rivers under major flood stage, and we're going to likely see that continue. it'll take a bit for the swelling of those rivers to go down. in the meantime we've got gusty winds. places like boston have come down, but montauk, new port all in that 20 to 40 mile per hour range. out west alerts are up in preparation for the next storm system going to cross the country. this is going to bring the same impacts we saw with this previous system plus other things. we do have this working through a

. >>> after a brief moment to dry out, there is a new storm system brewing out west angie lassman tracking the storm's impact good morning, angie. >> good morning, frances we have another system that we're tracking that's going to work onshore through the day today. we've got another clipper system through the great lakes, a small amount of accumulation there but out west, 11 million people under alerts you can see the bright green, that's a flood watch here's how it plays out. we'll deal with some showers through the day today across portions of the pacific northwest, but notice all that heavy rain that's going to work into portions of california to eureka, we'll see the potential for flooding we know how easy it is to flood in this region with quick-moving systems bringing heavy amounts of rain. and on top of that, snow and high winds across parts of the sierra nevada range. as we get into thursday, the amounts look to be three feet for the higher peaks as far athe rains to montgomery temperatures heading in the low 70s from houston to san antonio. >> angie, thanks >>> move over olympic

let's bring in angie lassman now who's tracking this storm and snow headed to the northeast >> we have winter alerts from california to kansas and you can see they range from winter storm watches and warnings to winter weather advisories this is something we watch through the day today as this system that yes, impacted the sierras, continues to move a little farther to the east notice we'll deal with the snow falling in parts of the central to southern rockies. rain across portions of the southern plains. the system moves a little further to the east. intensifies near the gulf of mexico and moves to the north. and bit time we get to saturday snow for the interior parts of the mid atlantic and northeast end ago s ending a snow drought in some of these spaces some of these spots haven't seen an inch of snow or more in two years. the potential for snow and difficult travel remains for parts of new england meanwhile, the heaviest of the snow looks right now, this could change, looks right now, though, to be centered for boston, portland, extending into portions of western new york as well

snow is marching east this morning, heading across the midwest to the northeast nbc meteorologist angie lassman is tracking the next set of storms for us. as if the cold isn't enough, we've got to get slammed with some of these storms, too. >> a double whammy you're exactly right we've got all of that on the table the next couple days the next system is going to work across the united states across the south, still folks dealing with freeze alerts, wind chill alerts for portions of the middle of the country and the reinforcing shot of cold air today and into tomorrow. wind chill of 5 below for minneapolis. into the teens for omaha it doesn't get better tomorrow kansas city tops out at 10 degrees. even if daln dallas it will feee the 20s. there's those winter alerts. 50 million people included in this right now from the west all the way to the center of the country, lake-effect snow happening today just downwind of those lakes more snow in places that have already received ample amounts of snow. but snow to contend with in portions of the middle of the country. down to the south, wintry mix and

. >>> time now for the weather and let's bring in meteorologist angie lassman for the forecast. to see you. how's 2024 starting off? >> you know what, 2024 is not bad for me, jonathan. i think it can only get better from here, at least that's my hope. i hope for you, too. we've got plenty of sunshine across the east. no real problems. i think one of the only spots we'll see some issues for the eastern half of the country is parts of texas you could see some heavy rain today. out west we'll deal with some rain and mountain snow with yet another system working onshore. we'll get to that in a moment, but here's the system going to bring that heavy rain to parts of texas today. the good news is low severe weather threat. we're not looking at tornados or anything of the sort for folks in texas today. really good drenching kind of rain, so pack the umbrella if you're headed out this morning. if you live across the southeast or parts of the gulf coast, we'll see some heavy rain there as that system continues to work to the east, maybe pick up an inch of rain across places like new orle

meteorologist angie lassman is here with the forecast. angie, how are you? >> hey, jonathan.ood day to forget your layers that's for sure. we're going to see continued cold across much of the country. wind chill alerts in the center of the country, 13 million people included in those. you can see when these wind chill minimums happen in the early hours we're going to be bottoming out in a lot of spots. minneapolis going to feel like 15 below friday and saturday morning, 13 below in chicago as we get into saturday morning. not much of an improvement over the next couple of days. we'll get back to normalish temperatures but still it'll be quite cold. meanwhile, we've got another winter system we're tracking across the country. it's going to bring the potential for winter weather. today it's centered across portions of the rockies and midwest and snow moving over the plains. we'll also see a new system bring the potential for wintery mix to folks across the south rain, freezing rain, snow, ice, all on the table for our friends there. and look what happens by the time we wrap up

let's go to meteorologist angie lassman for the forecast. >> it's difficult.s under alerts for this major winter storm. we've got wind alerts, flood alerts. and not to mention tornado watches and even thunderstorm warnings and watches that have been up and down already through this morning. as we go through the day we're going to see those become more prevalent especially across portions of of the southeast. you can see the snow moving through portions of of the midwest and great lakes here. this is what we'll watch for the colder side of the system. but the warmer side of the system, it's the strong storms. 27 million people at risk, wind, tornado all on the table. and some oz r of those tornados could be large. risk for eftornados through savannah and parts of the florida panhandle included in that as well. it looks like as we get through the later parts of your morning hours we'll start to see this system work through portion of the midatlantic. atlanta looking at peak impacts basically from now through 1:00 p.m. we'll have the strong winds, flood risk all

. >>> let's check in with nbc meteorologist angie lassman right now. angie, walk us through the map. this is dangerous for a lot of folks. >> it is a couple of days of the heavy snow in where you see jesse. we have snow up to a foot when this is all said and done. we have rain acrossed northeast. it has been storm after storm after storm. the flooding concerns remain. the rain will clear out of the northeast, but notice downwind of the lakes, the snow machine is going through saturday and into sunday. it will be another couple of days where we have the lingering lake-effect snow bands and intense at that. we pick up, like i mentioned, 8 to 10 inches east of the lake. watertown and buffalo and erie and u.p. of michigan with significant snowfall. we still have the wind alerts in effects for spots. 85 million people under those this morning. winter alerts are 61 million. the flood alerts with the windy conditions and that is making it so much worse with the cold air that has filtered in for a lot of folks across the northern rockies and stretching into the

angie lassman is here, our meteorologist friend.o be swarm snow in buffalo and lots of other places. >> more snow in buffalo for sure but i think it invigorates their fan base. i think it's their secret sauce. we've got the winter alerts because that system is working into the midatlantic, the north east. 95 million people under alerts right now. you can see some of that snow moderate, some spots heavy. the further south you go looking at a wintry mix. of course that makes the roads real slick for folks traveling along i-95 today. it's going to be difficult the morning and afternoon commute in new york city. we've got the lake effect snow happening as we get through the day today and tomorrow. the system will move out, but we've got these really strong and bitter cold winds left behind. that means there's that snow expected to pick up in buffalo even as we get into tomorrow. here's the snow totals 12502 feet closer to the lakes erie and ontario. closer to new york, philadelphia, washington, d.c. we're more in the range of 1, 2 to 3

i want to bring in angie lassman with a better look at the storm. this is a huge swath. >>> these are the people we are looking to be impacted, guys. good morning. we have the winter alerts up for 43 million people. they extend from the interior mid-atlantic up to new england. that system is on the move. right now, snow is draped across the great lakes and into the ohio valley and rain, heavy rain, through the southeast. the good news is the rain will taper off here as we go through the day today. we see this system lifting into the northeast and mid-atlantic and becoming really impactful for folks in the new england area as well as we get through sunday. there is the heavy snow and ice. we see potential for strong winds. that makes travel difficult with the additional snowfall with the heavy snow bands setting up across the portions of new england and dumping snow for folks there. we are still dealing with snowshowers and we will see the slick travel for sunday plans as well. the totals, i know that's what you want to see, as far as rain, maybe up
