let's go to turkey and anita is outside the refugee camp.ta it was supposed to be a fairly posh camp, life with that view, some people talked about it as a camp now refugee camp, a prison camp. what has been the reaction in the last few days? >> well, that was how syrians felt the first time they were shifted here. you have to understand when this refugee crisis in turkey first began, the syrians moved desperately, fearfully and in great numbers across the border by accommodated flexibly in the military zone between the two countries and at least at that point they had the freedom to come and go but they are tied up in the northern and southern region of turkey in the agricultural land and village operations and didn't want to, they couldn't bring themselves to conceive of a time when they might have to abandon literally everything they had. they wanted to go back to harvest crops and go back to tend their animals. now the turks not realizing that it would get to the problem it has got to and they would get to numbers that it has got to. wan

now, anita is outside the refugee camp in turkey, anita, you have been there from the start, you haveatched the trickle of refugees as they came in when the conflict first began. tell us how the situation has evolved? >> it's a grim milestone this 2 million mark. i remember standing on the border looking at a tiny village area, agriculture is the first refugees ran for their lives down the hill with something but we didn't at that point have any idea what. something behind the hills we couldn't tell driving them out. they didn't want to come, they stayed behind the chain link border fence of turkey for days not wishing to leaf behind their livestock, their family homes, these were poor rural villages whose entire wealth, and their entire future security rested in the hand. but they finally came, then they would come and go, they stayed in very makeshift camps, as best they could, and they came and went, and then they came more than they went, and then more came, and now all this time later we are in a situation like this where effectively we have a very good camp infrastructure. if yo

and anita we have been hearing about the stalemate in the fighting on the ground in syria for a while but do the syrian deputy prime minister's comments still come as a surprise? >> well, it's an interesting statement and a very interesting and fluid time in the political dynamic here. the game has always been by both sides i think to arrive at a negotiating process in the strongest position possible and the syrian government certainly and the syrian armed forces have been gaining ground back in resent months, perhaps not as successfully as they have made out but there is no question that with infighting breaking out among opposition fighting groups, all over the north of the country at the moment, they have never looked better. so is there a stalemate? yes, i think you could probably describe it as a stalemate. is it extraordinary the syrian government should admit to it? perhaps no, perhaps it's part of the very -- to use the word calculated i think it implies perhaps a pejorative sense and it's a careful way that political actors are proceeding ahead of what seems to be now finally
