kpix 5's anne makovec reports authorities believe a home was being used as a massive meth lab. anne. >> reporter: they think this all might be part of an operation run by a mexican drug cartel. you can see part of 20th street here in san jose is still closed down behind me. this is near julian street. and the feds have been investigating here for hours. they expect this investigation to go into the afternoon. now, this all started with a warrant from the department of homeland security and the dea. we have some pictures from above from our helicopter earlier this morning. this started with a search warrant. they found a large-scale meth conversion lab. [ pause ] >> mexican national drug cartels are operating in the silicon valley, that it is a location that is conducive recruiting individuals to assist in the methamphetamine production process as well as the distribution process. >> we lost anne makovec there, but a major drug bust in san jose. they believe it is a major meth lab run by a mexican cartel. and we'll try to get you more information as soon as we can. >>> a san jos

home overnight. and kpix 5's anne makovec joins us live as investigators try to figure out exactly what happened. anne. >> reporter: yeah. the arson investigator is right here at fuchsia court in hayward. you can see the scene here behind me. firefighters will be here for about another hour as the investigation into what happened begins. firefighters got the call at about 3 a.m. and when they got here, the home was engulfed in flames. they knocked down the front door. >> yes, they are closely packed inside there and we had concern initially of an exposure an adjoining unit. the fire didn't extend to that. fire was only contained to the one fire unit. >> reporter: they found a man lying close to the entryway of that home. obviously deceased but firefighters don't know right now if he died in the fire or before it. so they are going to determine how that man died as well as what started the fire. two big questions right now, they do say though that it does not appear to be a suspicious fire. live in hayward, anne makove
