we want to begin with ann curry looking at this iran deal live in geneva this morning. good morning, what can you tell us? >> reporter: it was a dramatic moment late last night when after four days of marathon bargaining lasting deep into the night and involving no less than seven of the world's foreign ministers, a deal was announced at nearly 3:00 a.m. secretary of state john kerry says the deal allows iran to continue enriching uranium, but at levels well below what is necessary for bomb making. it freezes or rolls back other parts of iran's nuclear program. that includes a much disputed heavy water plant that could produce plutonium for bombs. iran's foreign minister zarif told us in an exclusive interview that the deal does not halt construction of the plant. in return iran receives limited and reversible relief from sanctions, estimated at a value of $6 billion to $7 billion. while some have hailed the deal as an important first step toward a final comprehensive nuclear agreement, both iran's foreign minister and secretary kerry were cautious. >> it is not hard to

nbc's ann curry is in geneva and learned secretary of state john kerry will travel there tomorrow taking a detour from his middle east trip to meet with iran's foreign minister. talks are under way already. kerry's arrival is a strong sign of agreement on the first step of a potential deal. ann's been told by both sides tonight that an announcement could come as early as tomorrow with iran agreeing to nuclear controls in return for an easing of some sanctions. in his interview with chuck todd today, the president said any deal with iran would be subject to verification. >>> there are some big and bad new numbers out tonight about sexual assaults in the u.s. military. new data showing the number of reports has spiked dramatically. nearly 50% from july of 2012 through june of this year. in all five branches of the u.s. military and the national guard. this is according to the pentagon. what's not known is whether the rise in complaints signals an increase in assaults, an increase in reporting of them or both. there is a fight in congress over taking the complaints out of the military chain

the foreign minister said to ann curry it's definitely implied in the agreement. secretary kerry said it's not specified in the agreement. is this a case where each side is taking however they want to interpret the agreement? have we recognized iran's right to enrich uranium. haven't we the fact we spell out levels it can enrich uranium to. >> we have not recognized iran's right to enrich. we will not recognize iran's right to enrich. it's not in the agreement. the question is this. by the way, there are other countries that believe there's a right to enrich. iran believes there's a right to enrich in the nonproliferation treaty, for example. we don't and we won't period. the question is whether at the end of this process if there's a comprehensive solution could it include a very limited, very, very carefully monitored and inspected nuclear program in iran that includes some indigenous enrichment. that's what six months are about, to see if we can get to a place where such a program might be designed that would give us absolute confidence. it was exclusively for
