i'm anne-marie green. well, this afternoon, the growing debate over privacy over national security moves to the white house. president obama meets with a bipartisan group of lawmakers to discuss the national security agency's sweeping surveillance program. meanwhile the british paper that first revealed the program has published documents that appear to show the nsa can sift through e-mails, online chats, and browsing histories to just about any american without a warrant. and during testimony to congress yesterday it was revealed that an investigation into one phone call could involve millions of americans. susan mcginnis is in washington. susan, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. yeah. that's called hop analysis. where the nsa can look at someone's phone records, everyone he or she has called, everyone who's called them and that's how you lead to millions of different records being looked at. now, many here on capitol hill are expressing alarm on how sweeping these programs appear to be, and that'

i'm anne-marie green. well, this wildfire season could shape up to be one of the most destructive on record. the national interagency fire center said 3.3 million acres have been destroyed so far, fuelled by hot weather and strong winds, there are currently 49 large fires burning in 11 western states. at least nine are burning in idaho. the worst is the nearly two-week-old beaver creek fire. it's destroyed more than 100,000 acres. the fire appears to be calming, hundreds of fires were evacuated in the resort communities of ketchum and sun valley, but some residents are being allowed to return. >> now, it's more worrying about the land and animals and the firefighters and how long is the smoke going to be here. you know, so the worry level is down. >> more than 1,000 firefighters are fighting the beaver creek fire with the help of 14 helicopters. and a wildfire in northern oregon has burned at least 5,000 acres. dozens of buildings were evacuated. there were no reports of injuries, though. >>> and in the so

i'm anne-marie green. we begin in egypt where the muslim brotherhood is calling for nationwide protests today. hundreds were killed wednesday when security forces moved in on morsi supporters and the violence that followed. this morning the government authorized the use of deadly force against protessers who target police and public building. jericka duncan has more. >> reporter: the potential for violence and even more deaths is high today in egypt as both sides have called for demonstrations after friday prayers. the death toll for wednesday clashes has officially surpassed 600, and it continues to rise. some funerals are already being held, but so many people were killed the week that families are struggling to even claim the bodies of their loved ones. there is concern among many in the international kmumtd that the violence in egypt will continue to spread. the u.n. security council met here in new york last night and was briefed on the situation behind closed doors. >> there was a common desire under

i'm anne-marie green. well, egypt is on edge this morning. yesterday was the bloodiest day there since president mohamed morsi was overthrown in july. nearly 300 people died after the military-backed government cracked down on morsi supporters. the muslim brotherhood says its protests will continue and vows to take down the military government. the violence spread quickly across the country. egypt's interim prime minister called it a difficult day. morsi's supporters called it a massacre. jericka duncan has the coverage. >> reporter: fires burned in cairo last night as supporters of ousted president mohamed morsi clashed with security forces in sporadic battles, but the streets were mostly calm as the government called a state of emergency and called an army to force a mandatory curfew. there was a wave of violence that spread throughout the country. seven level are confirmed dead but the muslim brotherhood puts it as more than that. the prime minister defended the the government's decision to clear out th
