i'm anne-marie green. well, it is reported this morning that the japanese air bag manufacturer takata knew its air bags were dangerous ten years ago but covered up the results of secret tests. two former takata employees told "the new york times" the testing was stopped after three months and the evidence destroyed. don champion is here in new york with more. don, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. that was four years before takata told federal regulators it first tested its air bags. the faulty air bags have been tied to four deaths and forced a recall of more than 14 million cars worldwide. the secret tests were conducted at takata's facility in michigan on weekends and holidays. the defects can force the air bags to deploy with too much shards caution pieces of metal to go into passengers. last night it responded to the report saying it raised additional concerns about takata's handling of the air bag issues and is one of the reasons it's compelling them to produce documents and answer questions

i'm anne-marie green.uffalo, new york, is used to dealing with a lot of snow, but this morning, the city is paralyzed by a monster lake-effect storm that threatens to bury it in up to six feet of snow when all is said and done. at least four deaths are blamed on the storm. it's part of a nationwide system that's wrapped the country in a deep freeze. yesterday temperatures in all 50 states fell to freezing or below. and the storm is being called one of the worst in memory. the storm -- the snow, rather, is so deep and conditions to severe that a 135-mile stretch of the new york state throughway is shut down. drivers and cars, trucks and buses are stranded. some for more than 30 hours. the niagara university women's basketball team has been stranded on the throughway for about that long. the team was returning from a game in pittsburgh when they got stuck early tuesday morning. they've been in touch with police but haven't seen any help. they're in good spirits, but they're running low on food and water. ali
