tonight there are two meetings on this issue that is ktvu ann ruben tells there is a new twist now that san jose police chief has announced he is resigning. >> reporter: that is right. in san jose the statistics show there has been an increase in crime and increase in police response time. so tonight there are competing meetings to address the issue. now this comes one day after police chief chris moore announced his retirement and while the search is on for his replacement, there is also a search for suppose louis to the -- solutions to the crime problems here. they will hold a steady conference tonight to talk about moving more officers to patrol and improving more overtime. and they will talk about what can be done to move forward in addressing short staffing. they say they need to educate the public on how to protect themselves and their property. both groups say that the chief impending departure doesn't mean that work on safety issues will stop. >> it doesn't really change anything. what we need to do to deal with the public safety issues are the same whether the chief is a chief
