anna: thank you, paul. a lot of people have talked about the fed and what we saw from janet yellen this month. be the view from a few of the guests we have had around this desk. what do you make of what the ecb communicated and then did in early december? do you think markets had it wrong? what went wrong there, do you think? >> i don't envy any central banker's job. i do think that there is a little bit of, somebody dropped the ball somewhere. expectationslk up in his october press conference. what i was surprised about was, as expectations got far ahead of themselves, none of the subsequent meetings or speeches during november and early december did any ecb open shall try to temper market expectations about what was coming down the road. markets got very far ahead of themselves and it seems draghi made a rare slip. 3% higher.euro move anna: in all of these communications, it matters what is said and who says it. if you are going to lean against market expectations, you have descended out the right person,

anna: peter, thank you.ove the conversation to ron, had almost $1 billion of credit withdrawal request this quarter. they have performed poorly as investors leave in droves. simon ballard is here. great to have you on again. what is this telling us? tell us a bit about clearing aron road and what it signifies. simon: it signifies further down the quality curve. we had that still lie in capital story just a couple weeks ago, and i think it is further development moving through the fed tightening sphere now. the gates that were put up on certain funds, it's an interesting story. back in september it was worth $8.5 billion and it is now down to $1.25 billion after redemptions were scaled back in the third and fourth quarter. continued -- a continuation of the story of what happens when the fed moves into tightening mode. the restating of the quality curve, investors trying to take profits. this time of year, it reflects the lack of liquidity. anna: lack of liquidity in various assets has been something that's b

elliott: it does, anna. began toes from opec open and shake out these high-cost producers in the u.s. it did seem to be having an impact and we saw over the past year, over half of the rates in the u.s. being idled. .here was a surprise increase the u.s. deployed over 540. some say this is a blip. charts suggests things may have bottomed out in the u.s. global stockpiles are still rising at demand from china. then, you have got the u.s. lifting its 40 year moratorium on oil exports. it is not hard to see how there could be even more oil coming into the market, adding further to the supply glut and pressuring prices even more. anna: thank you, elliott. story.tick with the oil we had the chief energy analyst. great to see you. we have interesting comments coming from the iraqis and the aqataris. they are talking about not being pessimistic about prices. you got that message from both of them. what will opec do to change the amount of pessimism around oil prices? reporter: i don't think they can do very much. i

anna: u.s. been adding to the supply glut. >> part of the reason saudi arabia started opening those figures to produce as much oil as they could was to shake out higher cost producers in the united states. there was evidence that was working. rigs in the united states have been idled. reached gasquet came as an uptick in a surprise. are more than 540 rigs in the u.s.. if you couple that news with the fact that oil stockpiles in the u.s. are at a five-year average. passed legislation on friday lifting its 50 year moratorium on oil exports. the barrel should continue to see a decline in prices. maybe there's nothing out there that suggests there is would be some thing to make those prices rise. anna? anna: elliott gotkine joining us there. the oversupply has continued to squeeze rivals. producerd largest oil is pumping at near record levels. we are joined by kevin lilley. julian, let's come to you on a russian story. maintain? julian: indeed. the consensus is that they cannot continue to grow as s
