. >>> we want to take you live to annapolis where the maryland governor martin o'malley is about to sign the bill legalizing same sex marriage in maryland. we are still awaiting that event. as you can see, the crowd has gathered and there is a lot of anticipation for something that will be historic in the state of maryland. we've been telling you all afternoon that maryland will become the eighth state in the union to legalize gay marriage. let me tell you what the other seven are, massachusetts, connecticut, iowa, vermont, new hampshire, new york, washington and the district of columbia. those are the places where gay people can get married, same sex partners can get married even as we speak today. i should also note for you, though, 30 states have constitutional amendments banning same sex marriage. so obviously it's still quite controversial and even in the state of maryland which is liberal and has watched its state lawmakers vote to approve gay marriage, there's likely to be a referendum where voters will have their say. we understand now that we're moving on to the school shooting
