i'll be rooting for him to succeed, anne. >> okay. we know he's threatened to withhold funds from california if we do this or don't do that. is that something we should be concerned about? >> look, we should be a part of an effort to try and secure the border as best as possible. we should also, though, fight for the workforce crisis that we have where in hospitality, restaurant jobs, agricultural jobs, we're the largest agriculture producing state in the country, that there's a shortage of labor and the costs we pay for all those goods and services goes way up if there's a shortage of labor. so we need a legal immigration system that is also broken. we can fix the border. we can have a legal immigration system. if he's going to be punitive, he's not going to find the partners he needs. i think california should stand for those values of security, but also recognizing the workforce crisis that we face in our state. >> any other big issues that you really want to see tackled during this congress? >> look, gun violence continues to be a

. >> thank you, anne. i appreciate the opportunity to be on. >> tell us about your plan. it's pretty bold and you are really wanting police to focus in on that corridor. people openly doing drugs on the streets on sixth street? >> well, the lawlessness in my district and elsewhere in san francisco. they are at levels that we have never really seen before. and that is why i'm asking the police department and the department of public health and also the division of the fire department to report back to the board of supervisors on what resources they need to bring a solution as big as this problem. now right now on the sixth street corridor according to the police captain there, there are at least 200 people per night engaged in the illegal drug use. and what i'm asking is what will it take for us to make interventions, arresting people, but more than that, making sure we're getting them into detox programs. with the last election, we have the passage of prop 36, treatment mandated felonies, that really put them back in the game. and to make use of those, we need drug treatm

. >>> i'm anne makovec with some of the bay area help on the way to southern california right now. several engines hit the highway this afternoon with equipment preparing for the worst. our katie nielsen was heading down i-5 today to cover the fires since they passed this strike team coming from marin county. a part of the cavalry of firefighters from northern california, including teams from alameda county and santa rosa. here, we are seeing firefighters from skywalk average, tiburon, and central and southern marin. and a team of 22 firefighters, they are heading to socal from santa clara county, bringing five engines with them. they're going to be assigned to fight the eaton fire near pasadena. and they say all of them have volunteered for the duty, where they could be gone for up to two weeks. >> the two that we have is the training, the special equipment. we have camping gear. we have everything that we need to be self-sufficient for 72 hours. and also to camp out in the dirt if we need to, depending on where the fire front is. >> and the battalion chief wanted locals here to k
