frank mallicoat. nearly 5:00 on this wednesday. gunfire on highway 4 in the east bay for the second time in five days. kpix 5's anne makovec has the very latest from the john muir medical center. she is live in concord this morning. good morning. >>> reporter: a disturbing situation when it comes to these two shootings in less than a week in the same area. we got reports that one person who was shot came here to john muir medical center in concord last night. this all started though at around midnight in the bay point area. this was the area of san marco boulevard and highway 4. officers blocked off the area for this investigation. again, it happened after midnight. the driver came to the medical center in concord. we don't know the person's condition at this point. this also sounds similar to a shooting along highway 4, the same area on saturday 2.2 miles away exactly when 20-year-old tomas mendez was killed on his way home from work. somebody shot at him while he was driving east on highway 4 near bailey road. we don't know if those two incidents are connected. we are waiting for more information. anne makovec kp

frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. time now is 6:30. a terrifying incident in contra costa county where a rattlesnake bit a two-year-old girl. anne makovec is live in bay point with the latest. anne. >> reporter: this is a newer development in bay point. you can see plenty of patches of tall grass here in this area. this girl was bitten in her backyard and contra costa county fire authorities say this is the snake that bit her. they caught it soon after the girl's family called 911 just after 8 p.m. last night. at first, they didn't even know what had bitten her. >> went into the backyard, parent pointed us to the area where the child was playing. searched the area, about two minutes we found the snake, picked it up with sticks, placed it in a jar. >> reporter: the little girl was airlifted to children's hospital oakland. rattlesnake venom can be fatal but if they are treated right away, people have a good chance at survival. check out this snake bite on a 4-year-old boy in folsom. he was bitten on a bike trail after stepping on a coiled baby rattlesnake. the leg swelled and turned purple. >> mama bear instinct in me, um, decided
