kpix 5's anne makovec is live in saratoga where lawmakers are hoping audrie pott's death wasn't in vain. anne. >> reporter: this law does have a long way to go in the state legislature. but the push was kicked off here today in the small city of saratoga where a teenaged tragedy took place. at a press conference this morning, the santa clara county d.a. laid out the scenario. >> the young woman a group of young men, alcohol, sexual assault, social media, and then sometimes suicide. >> reporter: 15-year-old audrie pott hanged herself in 2012 after pictures of her naked body were dissemnated to fellow superintendents at saratoga high. she had been -- to -- disseminated to fellow students at saratoga high. she was drunk and was sexually assaulted and pictures were then disseminated online. audrey's law would criminalize this activity. if it involves a minor it would be a felony. the boys in her case were charged with sexual battery but the proceedings are secret in juvenile court. two of the boys got 30-day sentences, the third 45 days. had audrie been awake at the time of the assault, the

kpix 5 reporter anne makovec is checking the latest developments in the china basin area. firefighters are running into a new challenge this morning. >> reporter: well, they are having to make sure that their trucks have all the resources they need from gas to water because as you mentioned, they have been out here for about 12 hours. you can see the building here behind me, about six hoses spraying water actively and that's only from our angle here at fourth and china basin. part of the wall has collapsed. and the fire is still burning there in the core of the building. it was reported just before 5 p.m. it spread very quickly flames shooting 40 feet into the air. it is a condo complex that is under construction and has been for several months. at this point, it was made largely of wood. and that is what went up like tinder making things even more difficult for firefighters about 150 of them began their attack as embers and large burning pieces of debris fell around the neighborhood. so firefighters had to move some of the resources to nearby buildings to make sure that o

kpix 5's anne makovec tells us students are now hoping for a more peaceful scene today.porter: everybody is a little bit on edge after things did get out of corollas week. today's demonstration is a vigil for peace against police violence. this is what happened last week when protestors tried to enter conlin hall here at city college of san francisco demonstrating against a state appointed trustee and a new tuition policy that requires students to pay up front or on a payment plan. campus and san francisco police officers used batons and pepper spray to try to keep students from taking over conlin hall. about a dozen students got in and spent the night. two students were arrested and the school says six police officers received minor injuries. so today there is a meeting of the participatory governance council. the chancellor plans to propose a couple of initiatives one to promote peaceful dialogue on campus and another one that would call for an independent review of what happened during those protests last week. live in san francisco, anne makovec, kpix 5. >> the state

friday finally here march 21, i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm anne makovec. michelle griego has the morning off. it is 6:31. we have breaking news this morning in san jose. >>> crews have controlled a church fire. kiet do is live in the city's willow glen neighborhood. >> reporter: good morning. we're on the 900 block of minnesota avenue. this is in between bird and meridien. you can see here an active fire scene. this call came out at about 5:30 this morning at the church of god. the firefighters got here they saw flames 15 feet high spewing out of the windows. they put all their firefighters on there and because of the trees you see here and because of the homes are so close by, that's why they called the second alarm. it took them a half hour to get these things under control. most of the flames stayed inside of the building. right now, they do not know if it's suspicious but there's nothing that tells them that it is. but, of course, they are going to investigate. we did get to chat with the pastor's wife who called it in. she says she went to bed last ni
