"cbs news" has learned a u.s. satellite detected a heat flash over the sinai peninsula at the same time the jet broke apart in midair saturday. all 224 people were killed in the crash. the bodies of more victims were returned this morning. tina krauss is in london with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: maria, a senior official at the russian airline blames an external issue, ruleing out pilot issues. the debris e december spread out sci-fi peninsula. they say it's too soon to say what caused the crash. the airbus was en route from the red sea resort of sharm el-sheikh to st. petersburg when contact was lost. it was in the air for just 23 minutes. experts have not ruled out a bomb. the director of u.s. intelligence says it is unlikely terrorists are to blame but he wouldn't rule it out. >> we don't have direct evidence yet. >> most of those on board were russian, many of them children. data from

i'm anne-marie green. >>> there are new calls for calm in chicago this morning after protests over the release of a video that shows a black teen shot to death by a white police officer. we have a warning for you. the police dash cam video is graphic and it's disturbing. the video shows 17-year-old laquan mcdonald in the street. police are on the left, including the officer charged tuesday with murder. he fires 16 shots at mcdonald and in about 14 seconds. officer jason van dyke is the first police officer charged with murder for an on-duty murder in decades. hundreds clashed with police overnight and gathering near a police station and briefing blocking ing ing traffic. >> reporter: the video from the october 24th incident shows laquan mcdonald jogging down into a street and slows down into a walk. two officers approach. prosecutors say officer jason van dyke started shooting six seconds off he got out of his vehicle. the silent video shows van dyke continued to shoot mcdonald while the teen was on the gr

i'm anne-marie green. we have breaking news this morning. russia says the downing of a jet full of tourists in egypt was an act of terror. it is the first time russian official versus said that a home-made bomb brought down the metro jet last month. the crash in the sci-fi peninsula killed all 224 people on board. traces of explosives were found at the crash site. russian president vladimir putin ordered russian services to find those responsible. isis claimed responsibility. >>> this morning, there are new attacks if paris. a manhunt is under way for two suspected terrorists, one is described as the mastermind. the other supplied logistical support. isis warned? it planned to strike in washington, d.c. overnight, france watched another launch of airstrikes in syria. jonathan bigliotti is in washington. >> reporter: they will work to devise a defense plan against isis. kerry's arrival comes one day after the president, president obama addressed the g-20 summit saying how important it is now for the world to stand together to counteract isis.

i'm anne-marie green. >>> russia's top aviation official says the russian airliner that crashed on the psinai peninsula broke apart in mid air but it's too early to know just what happened. the russian jet had taken off from a red sea resort headed for st. petersburg with when it fell out of the sky on saturday and in the air 23 minutes and all 224 people on board were killed. don champion reports. >> reporter: the bodies of victims of the russian metro jet crash in egypt were flown to st. petersburg this morning. russian aviation officials say flight 9268 broke apart 23 minutes into its flight saturday. at the time, the plane was cruising at 30,000 feet over egypt's sinai peninsula. all 224 people on board were killed. an affiliate of islamic state group claimed responsibility for the crash but, so far, investigators say there is no evidence to support that. they are looking at possible mechanical and structural issues because the plane suffered severe damage in the past. >> it had a tail strike seven years ago and had been repaired. we just don't know if it was in adequate repair. >>
