. >> annie yu live in greenbelt with more on the story. good morning, annie. >> reporter: hey, good morning to you wisdom and maureen. this is a very serious accident here on the inner loop of the beltway near kenilworth avenue. i can tell you driving up here the backup begins just about a mile before you reach the kenilworth avenue exit. they were for quite some time -- all lanes were blocked. however, they were letting one lane get by and then diverting all of the traffic onto exit 24 which is the greenbelt metro. clearly involving a tractor-trailer. this is a bit of a mess out here hm you can see it pretty banged up, the front end just kind of crushed like tinfoil. they have just opened up two lanes, so two lanes now to the left getting by. again, this i beltway near kenilworth avenue right by the greenbelt metro station. and we are right now not t-, maryland state hasn't confirmed whether there are other vehicles involved. we were hearing for quite some time about maybe two cars also involved and we do know no serious injuries so that i

. >> fox5's annie yu is live on the scene with more. annie. >> reporter: hey, wisdom and maureen. right now it's too early to tell the cause of total of 12 people and multiple pets have been displaced. a total of six homes significantly damaged t-four of those homes are unlivable at this point and so these folks are go going to have to find another place to stay. that white home straight ahead is the home where the second alarm started, 10,900 block of pope street. right now what you're seeing is basically the overall stage. they're putting out hot spots. they haven't actually gone inside the home at this point so the structural integrity still unknown right now but we have washington gas also here because they had to shut off all the gas lines so a total of 70 firefighters worked this fire. we understand one person was transported to a and ho. hospital. this turned into a rescue mission once this mayday was that sounded because one of the firefighters was -- became disoriented we're told while fighting the fire inside a in and rescue the firefighter, so you have two firefighters

fox5's annie yu joins us with the details. >> reporter: good morning holly and wisdom.entioned teachers and staff on leave. it's a story fox5 has been covering for weeks now and we were first to tell you about the nearly 800 school district employees placed on admin leave while allegations of abuse and misconduct were investigated. now, when staff members are placed on leave because of abuse allegations they still do get paid. that's required bylaw. not to mention, the majority of employees accused of abuse eventually have been cleared. but we have learned through an open records request that the school district has paid nearly $10 million to those on administrative leave this school year. that's up nearly 1500 percent since the 2014-15 school year when was which was before strict new policies were created. these new policies on reporting abuse cases has meant hundreds of employees put on leave. teachers on leave are sent home but bus drivers have to report to work as usual and we have video that you're looking at of drivers there just passing time playing cards watchin

fox5's annie yu is live with the latest. t uprooted for this moment. good morning. >> good morning, steve and allison. yeah, i mean we talked to several homeowners out here who literally jumped out of bed because this happened around 1:00 o'clock and ran out that door. we're talking about 12 people displaced it's been very long and exhausting night not only firefighters for but those displaced, and one homeowner tells me he jumped out of bed, ran outside forgot his dog. his dog because he was afraid a firefighter had to go back inside and rescue him. there he is buddy just hanging out on the front step there, and this home belongs to tam martha arnold. she has really been this morning to her neighbors. you live directly across from the home that's started the fire or where the fire started. you've been helping out your neighbors and your home has sort of been a command post if you will. >> absolutely, yes. my neighbors/friends have been displaced through no fault of their own, so, you know, if you're a friend you must show yo

but we want to start with update on the victims of course and for that want to turn our fox5 annie yumed star hospital with the update. annie, what's going on? >> reporter: hey, maureen. well unfortunately, things remain the same out here. we have congressman scalise still in critical condition here at washington med star. we did learn star though exactly sort of where he's at. we learned that he was shot in the left hip and the bullet went through his pelvis fractured some bones. he had a lot of blood loss. and did undergo a surgery yesterday, however, we're told much needed surgery in the road ahead so a long road ahead for the recovery of congressman scalise. i can also tell you that in the last 20 minutes or so, we've seen an up tick in the security here. we saw u.s. capitol police officer showing up, dc police as well. there's word that vp mike pence was or is here right now visiting congressman scalise. and he is not the only one. late last night president trump and the first lady made their surprise visit out to washington med star with flowers in hand to show they're sign of s

annie yu joins us live with the latest now. god morning. >> good morning allison and steve. developments every day since fox5 first broke this story, and the state board of education now saying they will hire a third party to investigate what's really going on. school ceo kevin mack well welcomes the move. he denies those allegations brought to light by four school board members as you mentioned appeared on fox5 half an hour ago and he continues to say there's no systemic corruption and makes it clear that he hopes the investigation will put this controversy to rest once and for all. now, after a request from maryland governor larry hogan the board voted night to have an outside what's going on in the prince george's county public school system. four school board members three who are elected and one student member have alleged widespread fraud. they say they have evidence that hundreds of students have graduated with without meeting those state requirements and that there's grade fixing going op and records manipulation in the school system. dr. maxwell has made increasing

fox5's annie yu picks up the story there with more on this little boy. what do we know, annie? >> reporter: hey, holly, steve. well, we know that the boy is safe is. he is with police. in fact, he's right here at the bethesda district and entertained and hanging out with him and so he is safe. that is the good news. we also know from officers out here this morning that haven't received any calls yet so, of course, the hope is to get him reunited with his family. here's a picture of him once again. he was found walking around montgomery mall this morning around 1:45 near westlake drive and he weighs about 90 pounds, four-10, dark care he was wearing that orange shirt gray pajama pants and police say he was also found barefoot. police say he's nonverbal which is obviously difficult to communicate with him. they also tell us that they appears to be functioning at a level lower than his age and so police have had some trouble, you know, just talking to him and so they obviously need our help, your help in identifying who this little boy is, his parents, his guardians, so please, if

fox5's annie yu brings us the update. : good morning, still a lot of people out there demanding for answers and we have been asking to speak to school weeks now about these very serious allegations. and though he is still refusing to speak to us one-on-one he did speak publicly last night to room full of people he specifically addressed the allegations being made by four school board members of grade fixing to boost the graduation rate in the county. now prior to the meeting frustrated teachers and parents they rallied outside holding signs and chanting, the group in support of the four board members who contacted the state alleging that wild spread corruption allowed hundreds of students to graduate without meeting those state requirements. now, board member edward burroughs he is one of the four board members and says additional people have come forward since these allegations were brought to light. fox5 has spoken to a number of teachers and school employees who say the board members allegations are correct. the county

annie yu following all the latest developments in this story. orter: good morning to you wisdom and allison. that's right, the jury in bill cosby trial failed to reach a verdict after a fourth day of deliberations thursday and will resume work this morning at 9 o'clock. the bill cosby trial quickly becoming marathon. the judge telling jurors to go home for the evening, they appeared tired. they met with the judge and he told them they needed to be of sound mind and body in order to be efficient jurors. now, jurors in cosby's trial said they're deadlocked and cannot come to a unanimous decision on any of the three charges. the trial will go into its tenth day and the fifth day of deliberations keeping in mind that the defense only called one witness who was on the stand for six minutes so deliberations becoming almost as long as a trial itself. now, the jury had asked for six different questions from the jump. they wanted read back from various testimony including the detective. it appears it will be going on for at least one more day guys as earl

. >> fox5's annie yu is live there with the details and new video to share. eporter: hey, good morning, wisdom and maureen. well, this wasn't only a firefighting mission put a rescue as well. we're told that one of the firefighters actually became disoriented while he was inside fighting this fire and had to be rescued from it from a fellow colleague. both were transported to a hospital. right now their condition is unknown but there's still a lot going on out here on pope street. if you look behind me straight ahead that white home with all the windows where the fire started. this was a second alarm fire around 1 o'clock this morning. about 70 firefighters out here to fight this fire. and nearly six hours later, they're doing what's called an overhaul so they're up on the roof area, sort of working on those hot spots and then we're told that the fire actually spread to five other homes. so, you have a total of six homes damaged, 12 people displaced and james russ so he lives next door and his surveillance camera captured some of the flames shooting on the bac
