annmarie: that is exactly right.esday x date is going to be, the final one, because honestly the treasury is looking at june but you hear from analysts especially if you must go say they think it is later in the summer, early in the hall at the latest, but now when you look at the tax receipts, they are pretty underwhelming at the moment, and you have the likes of goldman sachs coming out as it is looking that we will recalibrate that the x date could be moved up to june. they are looking at july. depending on all of those tax payments getting to treasury, that can move the date, which is why it is starting to for sure make a lot of people nervous because you thought the x date was the end of summer or fall but lawmakers can continue to kick the can down the road. if you are looking at a june or july date, the progress they need to make to lift the debt ceiling has to start happening immediately. alix: what is the biggest thing on the chopping block in reality? it is not so much will they raise it but how it is raise

haidi: annmarie hordern spoke with kevin mccarthy and has been traveling with the president. what stood out to you in that conversation? annmarie: he is just off the heels of this meeting and it is unprecedented given he is the highest ranking u.s. official to sit down with a taiwanese president on u.s. soil. how did we get here? speaker pelosi last summer went to taipei and obviously, this meant a lot of acrimony between beijing and washington. we saw military drills conducted, and sanctions happening on taiwan. this is more of a muted response, especially for the taiwanese leader who will be facing an election in january. the message from speaker mccarthy was that he wants to make sure that arms sales to taiwan are sped up, and he pointed towards going to ukraine, that is proven that what they need to do in washington is show deterrence to make sure beijing doesn't come to the point where they would want to invade taiwan. shery: what was the take away for president tsai? >> this is a historical meeting because this is the first time in over four decades since u.s. and taiwa

annmarie: you know this well.as being hallmarked in the united kingdom the crown jewel that was going to be a free-trade agreement outside the european union with the united states and the u.s. has not delivered. tom: can i ask the question why? annmarie: there is a number of reasons. it is not a priority for this administration. it is not a priority to have a free-trade agreement. for the u.k., the u.s. would be a huge win. but is the united kingdom that massive of a trade partner? it is an important relationship. to the white house's defense, amanda sloat said rishi sunak will be coming to washington in june and that is where they will discuss more economic issues, like a free-trade agreement. jonathan: will they discuss the comments from macron? annmarie: that potentially will be one. we heard liz truss coming out and having her own view on that, pushing up against macron, who is taking fire right now. not just from u.s. politicians but politicians in europe. but not just macron but these leaked documents. this
