in napa, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> laura, thank you so much. science of this earthquake at usgs in menlo park. there's been at least two fairly sizeable afterchicagos, right? >> that's correct, kristen and cheryl. we've been monitoring a number of aftershocks, more than 30 of them so far, greatest at 3.6 and a number of them in the one to two range. seismologists and geophysicists have been very keenly watching this event. of course, as we've been reporting, this is the largest bay area earthquake we've had since the loma prieta earthquake in 1979. they are wanting to learn an awful lot about what's going on here. what we've been talking about with the geophysicists here is that today's event was a strike split fault, event. that means plates of the earth were moving in a lateral way -- in other words, going this direction, as opposed to a trust fault, which means they slip in a vertical way. either type of earthquake creates damage and we've been seeing damage in the bay area. i'm going to slip over here rkt if we have time to do so, to get br

meteorologist anthony slaughter is joining us now with more on that. how much, anthony? >> you know, looking at some of the models, this will be impressive depending on where the rain falls. some of the showers could be very heavy. this would actually come tomorrow and tuesday. so we have the ra da are fired up. we don't have anything right now to show. but off toward the east, the sierra seeing first signs of showers and thunderstorms that could move this way tonight and then again for tomorrow. the best chance will be from the golden gate bridge to points northward, including santa clara, san jose. but with any of this activity getting very close to the bay area, just a couple of miles of difference means you could be under the bull's-eye. tomorrow, we'll be looking at a few isolated showers. again, not a huge rain event for everybody. but, again, you get caught up under one of these storms, you could be looking at some pretty heavy rain. and that's going to continue as we head through tuesday. rainfall amounts don't look overly impressive unfortunately. but this is ju

an anthony mason is here.nited states is taking serious steps towards air strikes on isis forces inside syria. president obama is ordering u.s. reconnaissance strikes over that country. >> the president is not approving any air strikes yet and syria's government says it needs to know about any attacks ahead of time. david martin is at the pentagon where officials are planning for possible action. >> reporter: good morning, these reconnaissance flights will be flown by money manned and unmanned aircraft, looking for targets inside syria. this is the first step toward launching air strikes against isis in syria. isis is based in a remote part of northeastern syria where u.s. officials say there would be little threat of american warplanes being shot down by syrian air defenses. plans being drafted by the pentagon would use strikes by both manned and unmanned aircraft, in an attempt to disrupt isis operations and kill its senior leaders. the planning began in earnest, following last week's execution of journalist

i know anthony slaughter has been watching that. good morning. >> good morning to you both. the latest right now as that fire continues to burn near highway 152 is that both sections of the highway are actually surrounded by this fire. so either way, you're going to be looking at visibility being reduced. and sos that why they have that lane that was restricted. winds right now, out of the northwest, 5 to 10. the good news is on the western side of the fire, that's where it's put out. any kind of ember blowing over the highway, don't have to worry about that. but if we were to see our winds shift in the next couple of hours, that could be some bad news, because then that could mean smoke going over the highway. great news that we have to talk about here this morning, we have showers on the radar. and a little bit of drizzle, actually down where that fire is. so that could help and help the firefighters put it out. but the showers still streaming on in. this is because of the remnants of tropical storm which was a hurricane, still streaming on in here. so we'll continue with
