anderson starts now. >>> we have breaking news. hopeful news tonight on the effectiveness of the two publicly available covid vaccines even against new strains of the virus. dr. anthony fauci will be here live to talk about that in a moment. first, it's anything but a good evening for millions of americans without power tonight, some without heat or running water. for yet another record setting day, they are facing the harsh reality of cold temperatures in places unprepared. hardest hit is texas where water lines have burst, gas lines have frozen and power lines are down. some of the 2.6 million households without heat or power are forced into community warming centers where available. other haves been sickened or killed by carbon monoxide from heating arrangements. one houston area furniture store owner opened two locations for people to stay in and did the same after hurricane harvey but even remarkable individual acts of kindness can only go so far. the problems are statewide affecting millions and instead of taking responsibility, it seems some top state officials are doing anything but. ed is in dallas tonight. what's the latest? >> reporter: well, anderson, rig

anderson? >> other republican members of congress feel the former president's words give content to his state of mind, intent and duty. >> these are republican members of congress going on the record. i spoke to anthony gonzales of ohio. he's another one of the ten republicans that voted to impeach and here is what he said about trump. quote, i think it speaks to the former president's mind set. he was not sorry to see his unyieldingly loyal voice president or congress under attack by the mob he inspired. in fact, it seems he was happy about it or at the least, enjoyed the scenes that were horrifying to most americans across the country. republican members i spoke to, anderson, said trump's failure to act immediately after kevin mccarthy asked for help shows that he was not a blameless on se observer to this. i spoke to a third republican member who said that and it speaks to trump's intent. this proves that the president knew very early on what the president was doing and members were at risk and refused to act. it a violation of his oath of office to fail to come to congress and constitutional process immediately. this shows that trump knew what the rioters were doing and he supported it and that h
