anthony johnson is the story for us. >> reporter: we are outside the imacculata football practice. they are just wrapping up the practice. we saw a number of the players including number 73. he is the one seen on the video that very disturbing video that many people across the country have now had an opportunity to see as you can see and they are now walking off the field. he has talked to a number of friends inside the school. they are playing a game against baskin ridge this weekend and he is ready to go. the imacculata spartans are going through the drills as they prepare for the game on the 17th. the one person on the field in full pads, number 73, is in the spotlight for not reacting to what happened in this video this past weekend when his helmet was ripped off by an opposing player. the linden lineman then smashed the helmet into the player's head causing a cut that needed ten stitches to close. students say the player is handling this with dignity. has he talked about what happened? >> not in detail. he is a humble kid. he takes it in and going with it. >> reporter: authori

new jersey anthony johnson is in seaside with a look at the preparations taking place there. i am standing on top one these dunes, 8 to 10 feet high on the jersey shore. many towns have down exactly the same thing. this is to protect against beach erosion as many towns prepare for the doubling whammy of rain and high winds. there is already a significant amount of street flooding on the bayside of seaside heights. that was the result of last night's rainstorm. here homes are still being raised because of the damage when the water was so high and superstorm sandy. this time residents are getting prepared. >> right now taking anything that is loose or from the property and putting it inside. i am making sure there is no debris that gets on my neighbors or become flying objects. >> reporter: the town is prepared to use military equipment to evacuate if necessary. electric generators are on standby. a mobile command center is ready in case the police and fire sandbags are also available for residents to help with any potential flooding. these precautions began right after labor d

new jersey anthony johnson is there in belmar with the latest. anthony. >> reporter: david, they have been starting the preparations since yesterday, getting word about joaquin so they said they would go ahead and jump into action. let's show you what is place on the beachfront in belmar. you can see that the dunes are behind me. they are about 8 to 10 feet high. we see front-end loaders out here putting down more sand. they got a lot of this sand after superstorm sandy so they are using it to protect beaches because they do not want to see the water coming from the ocean they did back when sandy took place. the oceanside town of belmar is urging for the storm. lake cuomo is being drained so when the rain falls it won't town officials will pump all the water out of the lake and into the ocean because once the heavy weather arrives it's too problem. many towns on the jersey shore are taking a proactive report while waiting for forecasters. nerves on the shore may be frazzled since this could be the biggest coastal storm since sandy. officials say t

. >> anthony johnson has the new developments from linden. >> reporter: officer abad came to court this morning in staten island. he needed his family members to get into court and out of the court. the family members of the victims were playing close attention today. this has been a difficult day for all. >> it hurts a lot. >> that's how the sister of one of the victims feels on the day that pedro abad came to court to face justice. abad is still recovering from his injuries he suffered in the accident. he needed a wheelchair to enter a plea of not guilty. >> his sister said seeing abad was tough. >> to see that he's alive and my brother is dead is not fair. >> the wrong-way accident on horrendous. abad was driving the vehicle that slammed into an oncoming tractor trailer. abad and his friends were drinking and he posted a photo from their gathering that included a stop at a staten island strip club. reports indicate that abad's blood alcohol level was three times the illegal limit. he was seen driving the wrongway moments before the collision. >> months after the tragedy family member

anthony johnson is live with new information. anthony? >> reporter: well, just a short while ago i had an opportunity to talk to a neighbor who knows the family. she says she will miss seeing the two young victims running in the yard of that sage color home directly across the street. she said she actually had a friend that died in the charleston massacre so it has been a tough time for her and she can't understand why anybody would want to take out an entire family. >> like a bang, two big bangs and i was trying to figure out what is happening because you don't think something that late is going on. i run outside because i think somebody is fighting. that's when you see this lady and about two other gentlemen in front of the house screaming, you know. there are kids inside, help, help, get an ambulance. >> reporter: there was a large emergency response to the fire scene. but it was too late to save the four victims trapped inside a second floor bedroom. it appears they had been injured before multiple small fires were set inside the home

anthony johnson is live in linden with new information. anthony? >> reporter: well, we linden high school talked to the linden players, talked about the incident and the consequences. that player has been suspended from the team. we did hear from the mother today. she questions whether or not this was a vicious act or act of frustration. by now you have seen the video described as being a disgusting play of unsportsman conduct. he appears to yank off the helmet of an opposing player and slam it back into the player's head causing a cut needing 10 stitches to close. today his mother spoke saying her son is being unfairly targeted for a mistake in the heat of battle. >> he said it was an accident. my thing is he said his hand got stuck in the helmet. >> reporter: the game between i can make cue la take high and linden had racial overtones. that is not what lead to his out of control response. his supporters say he had being repeatedly fouled before he ripped off the helmet. they say he is a good student with no prior temper issues. >> fritz said, one

anthony johnson live outside the courthouse with more. >> reporter: david, that horrible crash left two people the injured officer, they were also hurt in that crash. but he was seriously injured like we said in the crash which took place back in march. finally he's recovered enough to come to court today. linden police officer pedro abad junior did take a few steps on crutches before being placed in a wheelchair and rolled into the precinct wearing a boot on his right foot which was injured in that horrific accident. abad was driving the wrong way on the staten island expressway when he slammed head on into a tractor-trailer. now he's been charged with several counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, and dwi all part of a 43 count indictment. these serious charges all stem from the deaths of 28-year-old joseph rodriguez, linden police officer frank viggiano, and pat cud lack was seriously injured. abad pleaded not guilty to all the charges. according to reports abad was driving three times over the legal limit after he and friends left a staten island strip club. his lawy

new jersey reporter anthony johnson in newark. anthony. >> reporter: well, here's the latest information we just got. we understand that all of the suspects were from newark and irvington, new jersey, this all began around 6:41 this morning. there was a crime wave taking place inside of the city. this is the house where everything came to an end and there was a police pursuit. they were apprehended by police. newscopter 7 was over the scene as they walked out, got down on the ground and were handcuffed before they were taken into custody. they and four others had stolen a silver jaguar and gone on a two-hour crime spree which involved a shooting and a robbery. the suspects jumped out of the stolen vehicle because they were being chased by newark police. authorities say three were quickly caught. the two in the house were flushed out and the sixth suspect was run over and killed by a newark police car. neighbors were shocked that young teenagers were involved in this crime spree. >> all this stuff out here is trying to be hard, tryi

. >> new jersey reporter anthony johnson is in newark with more anthony? >> reporter: well, we are standing exactly where this whole thing came to an end. the whole dramatic situation taking place here in newark, new jersey. early this morning, this was in front of 332 west iranian street and we want to show you this abandoned blue house, the suspects were held up inside of that house, the lower window there and you can see those three big holes. that's where authorities s.w.a.t. had to fire tear gas cannisters into the house to flush those suspects out. and during that time, this entire area was on lockdown. [ sound of gunfire ] that's the sound of the newark s.w.a.t. team firing a smoke cannister into the house where two of the suspects were barricaded after running from police. the strategy worked as news copter 7 was overhead as the last two suspects in the carjacking surrendered to police. it appears six suspects stole this silver jaguar from a woman around 6:41 in the the vailsburg section of newark. then went on a two hour crime wave of robbing, sho

new jersey reporter anthony johnson is live where the coach anthony? 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. governor chris christie on the campaign trail commented about the disciplinary issues taking place on the campus of rutgers university, which is a state- run university. the media is making too many problems taking place with young teenagers. as it stands now this is a program in turmoil and a program that's had a lot of problems. he had been a standout receiver for the scarlett knights. now he is no longer on the team because of alleged involvement in a post game altercation. it happened the parking lot outside of the stadium following a hard-fought loss to washington on saturday. there were several fights outside of the stadium. he may have known someone involved in the tension. he has had a spotless record since joining rutgers football. although he was not allowed to play in the first game of the season because of a curfew violation. this is the latest blow to the program. over the past few weeks players have been dismissed for criminal allegations including aggravated assault and

new jersey reporter anthony johnson is on the ground for us with the breaking news. >> bill, we did get word there was a plane in trouble heading to teterboro airport. it never made it there. we talked to a couple of witnesses out on the scene. they said when the plane was traveling over the field there was no power, no engine, the propeller was not moving. let's show you what is taking place on the ground. you can see the plane from this distance, a cessna 172 aircraft that crash landed around 5:00 out here in the field near the swim club. we talked to officials a few minutes ago. they said they are lucky this did not happen around this time now because they said normally around 6:00 in the evening this field would have been full of young kids. at the start of school all the kids come over here and practice. this plane did have problems. it came over the field. it halfway circled the field [000:59:57;00]
