this is on pine nut way in antioch. antioch police say this was not a random crime. they believe the suspect targeted the victim. and some of the neighbors here say they know why. according to neighbors this young man had helped out one of his roommates in the past defending her from neighbors describe as a violent ex- boyfriend. antioch police say it was that ex-boyfriend who came to the home around 9:30 last night, got in a confrontation and then shot and killed the 26-year-old victim. now we only know the victim's first name, dave. antioch police aren't releasing his full identity to us yet. last night after the deadly shooting, the victim's stepfather and neighbors gathered in front of the house to pray and console each other. antioch police arrested the ex- boyfriend, the suspected gunman in this case, he is now in police custody. >> he had beat her up and david stopped him from doing that and he came back and it was like retaliation to get dave because he stopped him from beating up his girlfriend. >> reporter: now the same day this shooting happened on monday

antioch police officers spent part of tuesday looking for clues. a section of town where a man was killed last night. i talked with realtors of the area and they tell me they've seen more and more people moving to brentwood and some other nearby communities because of the violence. one person told me home prices of dropped considerably here in antioch. the house going for four to thousand in 2007 as now planned for $100,000. the new trend is for owners to come in, buy it and rented out at a low price. sometimes the folks for section eight. the parents of the neighborhoods have changed quite a bit because of this. you're looking at the el portion where they are rallying. as we pan over, you can actually see the section they have set up for kids and students who come here for after-school programs. they can get help with those after-school programs, this is a place that tries to get them off the streets. today there on the street trying to preach their cause of stopping the violence. at 6:00 i did talk with the women today who said she has lived here

two shootings in antioch in recent weeks along the sycamore drive area of the city. today, antioch city leaders voiced their concerns about the rash of shootings during a council meeting. kron4's reggie kumar was there and tells us the city's interim mese chief says he needs the mick's help to track down the city. >> reporter: allen con tando spoke to the council inside that building. he says they've stepped up patrols in the sycamore drive area where there's gun violence problems but in order to make arrests he says witnesses need to come forward. >> if we're not witnessing it, we're not getting the support from the victims in these incidents. what we did was realigned our beat structures so we can put an additional officer in that beat. we have that extra body to respond to calls for service. >> what do you think you're having problems with witnesses? do you think they're scared to come forward? >> i don't know if they're scared to come forward, they're worry abouted that the court process is going to let them down. sometimes, these victims want to take care of thi

reporting in antioch, kron 4 news.been to separate approval attacks on people in golden gate park in the past week. it the most recent case to place in early tuesday morning. that's when a good samaritan found a victim in the safeway parking lot. he called officials in the man was taken to san francisco general. the of the case took place last friday. police say both victims were homeless men. in san francisco, kron 4 news. >>reporter: an explosion at a high-tech plant sent to people to the hospital. two employees were cleaning machine, some of the chemicals involved a flashing caused an explosion. one of them sustained critical injuries. if the firefighters who responded was treated for minor injuries. investigators have been working to figure out exactly what caused the blast. the building will be closed until fire said it's officially good to go back in. reporting live, kron 4 news. >>jeff: in oakland, you know just how bad the streets are from pot holes. the repairs started today, the city is coming a pothole blitz
