. >> let's cut out the middle people here, let's go to antonia hilton in arizona. antonia, kristen can tell us what they think the biden administration is going to deliver but you've been talking to folks in the community there in maricopa county. what are they expecting and how soon do they expect it when it comes to covid and some of these promises that they've been hearing? >> hey, chuck, so here in arizona there is a lot of anxiety, in a community that's particularly anxious to see biden make good on his promises and take this pandemic more seriously is the latino community. here in maricopa county there are about 40% of the covid cases right now and that's because these are frontline essential workers who are putting food on other people's tables out in public every day, and they're getting the virus. they tell me they want to see the vaccination process move much more quickly, and they want information about the vaccine to come out in english and in spanish. they are also especially anxious about the potential for more stimulus money. they feel like this mone

nbc's antonia hylton live in phoenix tonight. anto antonia, what are you hearing from law enforcement there >> reporter: hey, shep here on the capitol grounds in arizonas, law enforcement has set up a double layer fenced perimeter around the entire property they are no longer allowing visitors inside the building, just lawmakers and staff and the fbi field office told me in a statement that they do not at this time know of any specific threats to this capitol. but there's a bit of a gap here between law enforcement and the way the people who work here feel lawmakers tell me they believe heavy received credible threats and they are anxious about their safety over the next couple of days and in fact they're calling for more transparency and information from security forces involved in securing this space. keep in mind here in arizona they have been right in the thick of the controversy since election day not only have there been consistent protests with heavily armed individuals here frequently, but just last week, as you mentioned

antonia, good to see you this afternoon. how are things looking there?p toll law enforcement agencies are leaving things up to chance. there is a double layer fence around the perimeter and the national guard came and added barbed wiring as well. right now the fbi says there is no specific threat orally planned at the moment, but many of the lawmakers and staffers who work in the building behind me here don't agree with that. they feel that what we've seen happen in d.c. is intimately connected to the extremism movements that are at home here in arizona. they've seen tensions and protests happen out here on these grounds since election day. one of the stay lawmakers here who works in the building behind me, he went to d.c., took photos and posted them and the qanon shaman man has been denied bail here by a judge. >> arizona is thousands of miles away from washington, d.c. do you have see a connection between the activity we've seen there and what you've heard happen in this state? >> 100%. i know one of the most memorable images from that day is that att

nbc's antonia hylton good morning. >> reporter: since the very earliest days of the pandemic, they were told they were essential. but since the vaccines have rolled out, they don't feel treated like they are. california is still focused on treating the elderly so people 65 and 75 years of age and up in communities where many are from yung la tino immigrant families, they're not being captured in that age-tiered ugh they're high-risk workers going out to the field every single day. in fact, i visited a farm this week where four of the 12 workers recently caught covid, and that brought down about a third of their work force. i want to have you take a listen to this conversation i had with this man who's a son of farm workers and now owns an independent farm himse we work together, and i hope that they get that same value as someone else because just as you need a doctor or just as you need a firefighter to protect you, you need to protect your food source, you know. and so i really hope that they don't get forgotten. >> reporter: you know, something fascinating i learned from a nurse who

. >> antonia in watsonville, california, thank you so much for bringing us that story. we appreciate it. >>> back to washington now. this morning the first ever domestic terror warning from the department of homeland security, internal extremist groups loyal to the president may pose more threat across the country. targets are elected officials and government buildings. according to this latest bulletin saying these groups may actually be emboldened following the deadly capitol hill riots. why? the government is citing perceived grievances fueled by false narratives around the 2020 election. this alert and the aftermath is getting the attention of congress. our health team is reporting at least 32 lawmakers are asking for more flexibility to protect themselves from threats. both in d.c. and these members say they face ongoing security threats from the same domestic terror groups that attacked the capitol this month. our kate snow is looking at one of those groups apparently on the front line of those riots. >> reporter: among the crowd of rioters that stormed the capito

antonia is standing by there. yesterday you talked us through some of the security measures there. you seeing today? >> that's right. security here at the capital in phoenix remains tight around the entire perimeter although law enforcement has allowed a group of protesters to come up close to the building here. judging by their clothing they are associated with a right wing extremist group here in arizona. i web out into the city last night to get a sense of how the city is doing, what people are feeling as we bet closer to inauguration. take a look at some of these conversations that i had. >> quite honestly, i don't feel dave. not necessarily in the sense that i don't feel physically safe, but just concerned about the future and what the future holds in terms of democracy. >>> feel like in the moment i feel safe because i know wherever i am at is not where the crowd is going to be. but i have a feeling of it overspilling into our streets and having it be a daily thing, and that shouldn't be. i mean that's crazy. >> billboards are popping up around the city as well calling on res

. >> he has called it, antonia, a vote of conscious, according to senator kevin cramer who we had onour show yesterday, clearly telling his members, senator cramer said, the most important vote they may take here. you and i talked about this before. leader mcconnell has a very strong grip on his party. do you see this as potentially a turning point for your former boss, a watershed moment as he looks ahead to 2022? >> i don't, because i think, hallie, he's had to deal with many challenges in his career, professional career as leader. we have to remember back during the obama years there were constant threats to try and shut down the government over the affordable care act. he fought those tooth and nail. he was frequently on the other side of senator ted cruz on that. i think this is an important and historic moment for the country. he's going to be on the right side of history, that group of 12, four incoming freshmen. i hope this is a learning experience. they can vote their conscience and hopefully they'll understand moving forward touching the stove isn't always a good move. >> s

>> antonia, the health department in sarasota is using event bright to schedule vaccinations for seniors you if that were the case in new jersey i promise my mom and dad they don't know how to use that. >> reporter: that's right, stephanie. it's been a complicated rollout here. i mean, in the absence of a toward nated comprehensive vaccine distribution plan at the federal and state level some counties have had to get creative and sarasota has turned to event bright. this is a site better known for competitive tickets to parties and concerts not so much for health care services and so some of the senior citizens here who are already eligible to get the vaccine are really frustrated. this he feel like their opportunity to get the vaccine is being treated the way a bouncer might treat tickets to a party. to give you a sense of the demand, about 4,900 vaccines are on hand here in the county initially and on the first day they announced this they saw 167,000 page visits. take a listen to this conversation i had with a senior here in sarasota. >> we just kept clicking and clicking and clicking
