nbc correspondent, antonia hilton joins me with the latest. o most people, outside of chicago. but it has been a point of intense focus, in the city, for about a month, now. take us through it. >> that's exactly right, chris. i mean, there's been so many heartbreaking cases and coverage, recently, that in some ways, the story here in chicago has been drowned out. but adam toledo's case here has been on the front of minds here of protestors but also just regular folks that i have spoken to throughout my time here in the city. this is a 13-year-old boy. a boy who was in 7th grade. killed in the early hours of march 29th. and, you know, as you mentioned, this narrative, initially, emerged that this was a 13-year-old. a gang-affiliated 13-year-old that, likely, that when we would see the footage, we would see someone who was menacing an officer, who would have a gun in their hand. who posed an imminent threat. and from what we've seen here, you know, people feel betrayed. i mean, they knew that the -- that the video that was going to come out today

. >>> joining me now is nbc news correspondent antonia hilton who is in indianapolis and former fbi special agent and national security analyst, kent watts. antonia, i'm hoping you can shed a little bit of light on this for us. it was confusing watching that news conference, having the police chief say we don't know who the suspect is but also confirming they were searching a house nearby. now we have the name of the suspect. why was there that confusion? >> you're right, there was a gap in information there for a while, katy, where reporters were struggling to get the name and get the information from the officials here, but it was clear they had an active search going on at his home and they had a sense of who they were looking into, not looking for, since he shot and killed himself on the premises last night. you know, that chaos from last night has continued on into the day. you know, now we're hearing that the coroner's office is actually on-site and that their investigation is going to take several hours now. so people were hoping to hear about the victims, their stories, their back s

and nbc's antonia hilton is in chicago's millennium park. cal, let me start with you. how are the residents of brooklyn center feeling tonight? >> look. they're nervous about tonight, and i will tell you what happened last night. you mentioned that fence and i am glad you did, josh. we are going to show you that fence right now. it is actually the second fencing that exists here, around a perimeter that they have put in place around this very small police station. the police, and we are talking about the sheriff's office, backed by the state police, backed by the national guard, say that that fence was breached. the question amongst residents is, so, what does that matter? there is a good-ten feet before you get to that other fence. and there were, as far as we could see, no weapons in the crowd. but nonetheless, the authorities came out, in force, at 10:00. they came hard. they came fast. and they arrested 136 people, as you said. initially, they detained everybody, and then sorted out who was who. but this is the sixth night in a row this has happened. even know thin

i want to bring back antonia hilton. who do we expect to hear from today? from the mayor, the police chief, and the fbi here at this press conference at well. and the key questions that reporters and loved ones are waiting to hear is "who was this shooter." what was their motives, do they know the workers there? who are the people that died? have we identified these eight loved ones lost. who are they? what are their stories, and more about the details of how it unfolded. it sounds like all of this unfolded in a matter of a couple minutes. one to two minutes. did it begin in the parking lot? how did the person enter the facility? you know we heard that it is likely the shooter wasn't able to get too deep into the warehouse, but it's unclear how they were able to access it in the first place. so you know, what we're hoping to hear from the mayor and police chief in particular are more details about who the shooter is and why it happened and the stories of the people we have now lost, hallie. >> thank you, i know you will stand by. we're going to bring you li

antonia hilton, thank you for the information. catherine, thanks for making time to be with us this afternoon. can you talk about where this investigation goes from here especially considering how much, as antonia just laid out, we don't know. >> absolutely. you heard from the press conference this morning, they are working together. the fbi has people doing interviews and gathering evidence at the scene. you only get one time to do that. even though people are impatient and i appreciate they want answers. you only get one time to interview people. the medical examiner said it will take time to identify people. the first thing you do is gather information at the scene. once people step into the scene you don't have that anymore. one of the things we do with evidence collection is look where every round goes, the weapon used, where every round goes, in a person or in the facility. it is a big facility to search. fbi has people there, state police and local police. sadly, we know how to do this. 20 years ago we weren't as good at it.

the attorney had been wrong and failed to fully inform himself before speaking in court nbc's antonia hilton live in chicago. antonia, how is the community reacting tonight >> reporter: good evening, shep, i'm right here in millennium park in chicago, and protesters are expected to start gathering here throughout the night in honor of adam toledo's memory, and in reaction to this horrific and disturbing and graphic video released just hours ago. the mood across the city, shep, is one of heartbreak, betrayal, hurt, and much of that is directed toward city leaders, to the chicago police department and then also to the prosecutor that you just mentioned. many people here say they felt they were led to believe that what they would see when this video came out was, you know, adam toledo obviously menacing the officer, holding a gun in his hand, ignoring commands, but that is not what the video shows, and so while people were bracing for a traumatic and graphic video, they were still shocked by what they ultimately saw. i want you to take a listen to what the family's attorney said earlier today.
