anwas a very informational, informational time. i thought, i am starting to gather stuff. this was 24 or 25 years ago. and i started to think, had anybody in academia done anything on the subject? had anything ever been written on indigenous radio? i found one article written by gentleman named bruce smith, and he was the chair of a communication department in fairbanks, and he had written a profile of a native american station up inuit alaska which was pretty , revealing. i got in touch with bruce. and there was another piece that was co-authored by someone out of marquette. it was kind of an overview of ethnic radio, but there was information there about -- a little bit native. and that was it. there was nothing else anywhere, you know? so i realized i was left to my own resources in gathering information on indigenous broadcasting. so, for the next couple of years i did some more visits, guts did some more contacts, i found the more i did communicate the more receptive and forthcoming native broadcasters were in providing information and talking to me. then i found out
