in 2010 we partnered with the white house to launch open 311 api, the first ever read write api for cities. we now have over 40 cities that have joined us. in 2011 we partnered with gray area foundation on a series of hack-a-thons, 10,000 attendees, and created nearly 30 applications all being powered by open data. now in 2012 we have our legislation that you heard about. as you heard, we announced the chief data officer. we have a network of open data coordinators within each agency. and these coordinators, their primary responsibility is to provide insight, is to provide transparency into the data sets that they manage. and that's really important. we want to make sure that you guys have a clear understanding in our community about the data that we manage so you can tell us where we should be going next in terms of opening up our data sets. we also are doing some structural changes so that open data is really the default position for our city. we're making sure that data belongs to our city, not the vendor. and second, we're making sure that any software that we buy or build hatx a publi

saturday and as we close out the holiday season we did bayview toy give away today, mission station and api on bay shore was on saturday and obviously operation dream in various joy give aways will be going forward the rest of the holiday season. and that concludes my report. >> well, thank you, chief. speaking of the real positive news, the press conference with officers cloud and gritch, it wasn't only commissioner loftus that was crying, it was maybe another commissioner. >> i didn't want to be the one that said it, i'm glad you said it. >> even our commission secretary who has done a lot with this department had tears in his eyes. it was an incredible press conference. what those two officers did was beyond belief, saving that little baby's life. it was amazing. god bless them, they did the lord's work, they are great police officers and to hear the officer that was driving the radio car while the other officer was giving cpr to the baby because they couldn't wait for the ambulance, to hear him say the officer giving cpr was crying and telling the baby to come back, it made me to be com

is one of only two large urban school systems in the state of california to have surpassed the 800 api mark. [ applause ] so we're tremendously proud of our students and teachers and communities and principals. so we're going to get together and celebrate. and we're going to celebrate that, but we're also going to recognize schools that are on the move, schools that are closing the achievement gap for african-american and latino students and those with growth. so there will be lots of celebrating going on and we're going to recommitment to closing the achievement gap. because, as much as we're going to celebrate, we're also going to be very clear about the fact that we have a long way to go, but that we have the right people on the bus and the bus is heading in the right direction and we're going to add some gas to the bus on thursday. so we want to invite everybody to come and join us. >> can i just one thing? i just want to recognize the district and the superintendent for doing this. this is perfect. it's spectacular. i have been asking for something like this, i think for ten years
