in 2010 we partnered with the white house to launch open 311 api, the first ever read write api for cities. we now have over 40 cities that have joined us. in 2011 we partnered with gray area foundation on a series of hack-a-thons, 10,000 attendees, and created nearly 30 applications all being powered by open data. now in 2012 we have our legislation that you heard about. as you heard, we announced the chief data officer. we have a network of open data coordinators within each agency. and these coordinators, their primary responsibility is to provide insight, is to provide transparency into the data sets that they manage. and that's really important. we want to make sure that you guys have a clear understanding in our community about the data that we manage so you can tell us where we should be going next in terms of opening up our data sets. we also are doing some structural changes so that open data is really the default position for our city. we're making sure that data belongs to our city, not the vendor. and second, we're making sure that any software that we buy or build hatx a publi

i want to recognize all of the milestones the api has made in the state of california and in the entirentry. the caucus has a record of 42 members in the asian caucus in congress. one of their very first things we want to say is it was a young man who was the first member -- we want to make note of that. the reestablishment of the white house initiative by president obama was another accomplishment. president obama's cabinets has dr. steven chu. the very first asian-american -- as ambassador to the republic of china. we have a lot of accomplishments. it was not that accident, my friends. everyone of you know that you work hard. all these things are done on purpose. i want to let you know that we also can boast twice as many asian-americans on federal benches. those of us to understand the impact of the supreme court and what it can do or on june, we know that having asian-americans on the federal bench is a line up for appointments to the supreme court. thank you very much for this opportunity. i want to say that silicon valley is the birthplace of high-tech. silicon valley is the birth

specifically to try to target outreach to the api lgbt latino and african-american communities, as well as working with homeownership sf, which was a elaborative of all the different homeownership organizations, as well as consumer credit outreach. there are additional barriers to access those units. whenever anyone contact ours offices and said can you contact about bmr us about opportunities, everybody gets an email blast about an opening in the program. we approved the marketing plans of each of the development s where developers post on craigslist and other publications. we have also been attempting to assess what more we can do? clearly the numbers on the rental side, i think, we're rear view mirrorly relatively happy with. on the ownership side we have been working with our homeownership counseling groups to determine what is it that proves to be the stumbling block? one is the timing to actually successfully apply. we have attempted to do, i think, a better job with the outreach opportunities to make sure there are families that are able to apply. we can always do better with tha

last but not least, michael niland, program coordinator for the api wellness center. >> they model over 20 cultures, speak over 10 different languages, whether they are straight or gay, transgender, lesbian, we have them all. when we listen to their stories we see common themes, things like i can't come out it my dad because he'll beat me up. things like i can't tell my friends i'm gay, i'll lose them. i feel like i don't have anyone, i'm better off dead. these stories come up over and over again. it's not new news that safe spaces isn't enough any more. we can't just provide that safe space. we really have to take a look at where they are coming from and listening to their stories and assessing what they want from us as service providers. in my experience the most flourishing circumstances where youth have become strong and become independent from situations where they have been bullied or they have been discriminated against are times when we have given them power, we have given them a voice, we've given them a chance to say, hey, this is what i want to do and this is how i'm going to
