apollo 11 was the first mission to land on the moon.es, both were more than the components that made up the rockets and capsules. the risks were high, but these men were willing to embrace that peril. one of these men, john being the first, was also the only one of this group to run for president. i would like to take a moment to tell one of the great stories that came out of that campaign. john may not want me to tell it, but he was running for president and i came home -- and had come home late for dinner. his wife was a little irritated that he was late. he was worn out and his dog was welcoming him. she was on his case, and finally he said, i am dead tired. i'm not doing good in the polls, and i'm almost out of money. when i come home like this, it seems like i ought to at least have two friends.
