he is a man who clearly is a visionary, not just for apple, but for business across the board. this is a day that some saw coming, but, again, the details of his health condition, his battle with cancer, has always been very, very private. apple is a company that is not a company that allows a lot of information out to the press when it comes to, of course, their ceo, steve jobs. he very rarely, if ever, even speaks to reporters. but, again, he's the name of this company. he says he strongly recommends that the succession plan, tim cook, the coo, then, become ceo. it is clear now that that is what is going to happen. one thing i should tell you, candy, is that this is a company that had a plan. they knew that their chief executive was ill and they've had a plan. tim cook is also a very strong leader, seen by investors as a strong leader of this company. i wanted to take a look right now at shares of apple. they were on hold for a while, candy, and they have just opened up, and apple shares have fallen about 7%, 8% to about $356. so, obviously we expected some investor reaction,

>> the good news is we see an emerging business model for media, and the bad news is it involves giving 30% of your revenue to apple. but i think there is a lot of potential, actually, for building a business on top of distribution through mobile. the other thing we have got going on is really profoundly exciting and far more exciting than five years ago, that the tools are so much better than they were five years ago. they are profoundly better. compared to the dark days of 2005, media are now -- everybody is online. facebook can launch a product, and really, overnight, build community on thousands of websites. there really are some exciting things going on. in the last five years, things have changed a lot. >> does that count -- does that excitement also extend to content? >> i do not think we are there yet. i do not think we have seen any digital native content that has produced really ground-breaking journalism. a couple of years ago, we were pretty excited about what was happening at a place like talking points memo, where they were doing some great stuff. we have seen a lot of efforts, but things like rupert

it's blackberry business has been under pressure, thanks to the iphone. apple stock was up almost 2%. as darren also mentioned in his report, the deal is about patents as it is about anything else. one patent company, inter- digital, was hit hard. inter-digital shares fell more than 14%. volume was up seven fold. the share price jumped in july when it announced it was exploring strategic alternatives, and the market was anticipating a buyout. despite today's sell-off, the stock remains well above where it was trading before that announcement. that google-motorola combo wasn't the only thing popping in today's trading. take a look at corn-- up six cents a bushel today. it may not sound like much, but at $7.20 a bushel, this is a new high in corn. last week, a government report predicted a smaller than expected corn harvest, helping push prices up. and that's tonight's "market focus." >> tom: fantasy sports is a very real one. 1 billion dollars a year in that business. the likes of disney, yahoo!, cbs all looking for big profits in the years ahead. tonight's beyo
