it was felt very strongly by residents who wanted to go to pray -- many decided not to go to the al aqsaque compound. instead they went to their local mosques. there was so much in the way of roadblocks, some of them mobile, some of them permanent -- well, semipermanent with huge concrete blocks actually cutting off roads and other roadblocks in which everyone was checked over, several times over, people having to stand back from the security forces and just open -- lift up their shirts or even their trousers to show that their socks hadn't got knives in them. and there was a reduced number for friday prayers with the restrictions imposed of under 40-year-old males going to pray and women, and there were lots of impromptu gatherings of prayer outside of the security cordon. but the tension is still palpable all over. and we have a situation now where there are side effects to this security operation. we have even got fraud squad police giving up investigations to join the security forces, prisonson officers, 400 of them, right across the board, cid detectives saying they couldn't continu

okay, there have been security restrictions placed around the al aqsa mosque compound. we're joined live, mike, i read that a 13-year-old had been killed in fighting with israeli security forces. what are the circumstances to such a young boy getting involved with something like this? >> well, the exact circumstances are not clear at all, david. we know that a the 13-year-old was killed between in clashes between the palestinian and israeli army. the 13-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to the injuries. once again this is something that has been happening repeatedly throughout the occupied west bank. a sporadic clashes erupting into major clashes in area after area, incidents like this if this conflict conditions are going to happen again whether intentional or whether it be some form of cross fire. certainly the contention is rampant in many parts of the west bank as it is in the old city of jerusalem which provided the spark point for this latest round of conflict. >> there is always tension in the up ad west bank. is there anything in on to

access to the al-aqsa mosque is being restricted to men >> mike hanna, the latest restriction began with restrictions and bans of palestinians living under occupation there. are the restrictions working at this point? >> well, it would appear that the restrictions have not been working. many years in the past, these type of restrictions have been put in place, following incidents of violence or conflict within the old city or indeed just outside its walls. however, in recent months the restrictions have become more pointed and the restrictions in place today are unprecedented, in terms of affecting the whole of the old city, as i reported there, entrance restricted to the old city proper, to tourists, business owners and residents. and muslims wishing to pray over the age of 50, as i mentioned, also not being allowed access through damascus gate. people wearing the traditional jewish head wear, being allowed into the al-aqsa compound, walking around it, not being allowed to pray but certainly being allowed full access to the compound area sami. >> under restriction after attacks on israe
