a man accused of shooting his own father is scheduled to be in court today in arapahoe county. deputies say they responded to an emergency call last year and found jonathon ryan's 71-year-old father shot in the head. he did not survive. we don't know led up to the shooting. ryan faces murder charges, among others. another colorado law enforcement officer has lost his life. a las animas deputy died in a crash. now investigators are trying to determine what made him veer off the road and slam into a parked car and roll over. troopers say the crash happened when deputy travis russell was driving avenue in trinidad. he was rushed to the hospital but later died. csp says deputy russell was on duty but was not responding to a call at that time. an autopsy will determine how he died. one of colorado's largest oil and gas companies is cutting back its operations in the state. anadarko petroleum will have only one drilling rig operating in the state this year...that's down from an average of seven in 2015. anadarko will spend about $500 million dollars this year in the denver- julesburg

launcher the man accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death a year ago will be arraigned today in arapahoe county. glendale police say severiano almendariz stabbed nora deleon to death in february of last year. the night before she had told him she planned to move out of their house... and live with another man. one of two men serving time for fatally beating a disabled man in boulder--is appealing his convictions. austin holford filed his appeal last month he says a request he made for alternative defense counsel should have been approved.... after his attorneys misadvised him on his plea agreement. holford pleaded guilty to murder, assault and robbery. he's serving a 56- years for aaron tuneber's death. his accomplice luke pelham is serving a 30-year sentence. today sports authority will begin liquidation sales at about 140 stores. the national retailer filed for bankruptcy this three stores here in colorado are closing: the sports castle in downtown denver, the store in greenwood village, and the outlet in littleton. liquidation sales are expected in a few weeks although that could vary
