city. at the red lines, these are the congestion. this is the pattern of workers who go to work in the morning and in the afternoon. most of the workers come from outside of the city of amsterdam. they come mostly by car, but also a big part from public transport. what was the conclusion of all the businesses? if we go on like this, we have a real big problem in one, two years, maybe a little bit longer, we will not have any mobility anymore in our own region. that was one of the reasons that businesses came together and they were thinking, what can we do, not for a long time because it takes time, but what can we do today that helps today? that is important for the accessibility, and accessibility is very important for good, competition against the other regions in europe. of course, it is very important for the quality of life. if we want to attract international business, we need to attract people from outside. they only come if it is nice to live in your city. k4they were trying to reduce te parking, which was 10%. we went into n

i want a city that works for those whose voices are not heard in this chamber. i want a city that works for every member in the district. we have to work collectively to make sure that happens. i want to continue to focus on issues that ensure that a city like san francisco work for people. public safety is a big priority. i want to thank the police department. i want to thank the community that recognize the public safety not just about having police officers on the street is important as that is but that public safety means giving people the opportunity to have employment, the opportunity to educate themselves. public safety means that we don't take constitutional rights to the extreme and that while we may support the second amendment we have to support the fact that we have too many guns on the street. when we talk about making the city work for everyone, that it means helping our working families, our middle-class families that are struggling. if you look at what is happening throughout the city we have great wealth in san francisco that many people on the b

as a result, a small number of forward thinking cities are gobbling up the lion's share of post teen suburbanites and empty nesters with the wherewithal to live wherever they want, while most midsized american cities go hungry. how can providence, grand rapids, and tacoma compete with boston, chicago and portland? or more business particularly, how can these typical cities provide their citizens only of life that makes them want to stay? while there are many answers to that question, perhaps none has been so thoroughly neglected as design, and helicopter is a collection of simple design fixes can reverse decades of counterproductive policies and practices and usher in a new era of street life in america. the sixth of simply give pedestrians a fighting chance while also embracing bikes, enhancing transit, and making downtown living attractive to a broader range of people. each one individually make a difference. together they can transform a city and the lives of its residents. even new york and san francisco still get something's wrong but they will continue to push the country's best

city's economic development? are we on the right track? what would you like to change about the city's approach to developing the economy? supervisor chu: in some aspects, our economic development is on the right track. if you take a look at some of the successes -- mission bay, for example, has been a success where we have been able to attract biotech corporations to come and headquartere in the city. we are currently building a hospital, and there are a lot of research institutions, and i think that will be a great anchor for the city. the city has worked closely with contractors to figure out how we can do hiring locally. this is through our citybuild program where we help individuals gain the skills needed to work in construction jobs. we have a number of big projects that are really generating the job growth and place for people to be working. so i think that in terms of the pace and number of projects that we have, in terms of identifying some key sectors to attract, in terms of providing rebates for films to c

those are things the city could address quite easily. those are some of the areas where we might take what they do and then move a step further with it. >> supervisor campos: last thing i want to say, and i hope that you will also look at, not only sort of the performance of the agency. but i think it would also be appropriate, and i think it is very timely given the housing audit that you did last year, how the city can also better support the agency itself because there is an interconnection between what they are doing and what we are doing. i am certainly interested in that piece as well. >> okay. thank you and final piece. my colleagues mentioned some great areas to focus on from their perspective. one area i think just to flush out that i think is interesting to me as well that would be informative is what the housing authority's financial planning processes look like, whether following best practices with regards to find, budgeting, these are things that to the extent they are successful in that arena they are able to deal with a lo

more broadly how do you think san francisco compares and what are some of the other cities that are doing really well in terms of open data? >> i should be clear. when san francisco is third, we have a pact. i'll add to that actually. what's great in san francisco is there is not just going to be a chief data officer. there is also the office of civic innovation. jay's team, shannon's team. by having both of those units in place i think there is going to be a really powerful team. because you can't just open up the data. you have to do things like this, where you get the community together or you have people actually talking about it because the demand side, as we were talking about it, will be there because there is going to be someone there. there have to be people working with it who are getting out there. i think this is what this city is going to be really powerful. in terms of other cities doing as well, chicago is doing some really interesting stuff. scary cool stuff. they're taking 3 in 1 data, pothole request and crime report and matching it up with social media. they're getting

they are all over the city. they can be the eyes and ears of the police department if trained properly. we can also better utilize the sheriff's department. it has the same training as members of the police department. i think we could have a healthy conversation in considering partnering -- creating a stronger partnership with the sheriff's department. overall, crime, yes. we need to reduce the number of homicides. we need to reduce the number of aggravated assaults, petty crimes, misdemeanors. i do get my fair share in my district. that is one issue that is universal between safety and education. everyone is very concerned about it. >> talk to me about the progress on environmental cleanup in the areas of san francisco where that is a growing concern. >> you know, in san francisco, specifically in the southeast quadrant, san francisco is the industrial armpit. we have got the two major toxic sites, we have the shipyard and the lock site. both of those toxic chemicals that are still in the ground are from earli

you know, there are many streets of our great, great city and everybody i think is now enjoying so many of the neighborhoods that are rising up. but there have been neighborhoods like desoma and the excelsior, critical names of streets that we named after filipinos who really served our city and country in a fabulous way. i want to make sure that people remember that. because it's part of our history. so let me say some of them that many of you in the room know, but a lot of our people don't know that. you ever see the names?
