i'm joined now by my msnbc colleague ari melber who is also an attorney.o the judge has found that though bradley manning did leak classified information, he has been acquitted of aiding the enemy. does this mean, ari, that leaking information to journalists is not yet regarded as an act of treason. >> i think that's right. that's the important distinction. these are very serious charges that manning was convicted of today. there were ten counts he and his lawyers said he he was willing to plead guilty to. the government wanted more. they got a lot more including espionage charges. on this historic potential conviction that the government wanted on aiding the enemy, the idea that giving you or me or any journalist or any website information is the same as working directly with terrorists, that attempt, was knocked down today. >> ari, do you accept the view that will this verdict is more about warning others that liking classified material will be severely punished by the united states government than it is really about bradley manning? >> look, that's a ve

what do you make of what ari said?ack to prisms and what prism you look through. this will not be the first criticism from folks who see this differently, conservatives, you know, under what other umbrella they come politically, i don't know. they will say, listen, there is this question. was this trial about race? or was it not about race? and the totality of what the president said to conservative ears and to those who feel we had a trial, there was justice, he was found not guilty, and that's the end of it, the president in that speech off the zimmerman trial, even though he stayed away from the details of it, made it about race. so i think that's what, you know, he tried very hard i think or deliberately skipped the details was it about race, was it not about race, but certainly in the stories and in the context, now you've just made this -- now the president has just made this about race and he's supposed to be president of the all people, i will add, though, that the president has spoken to african-american males

joining me are alma adams and arie bermam, i would talk to talk to you as we look at texas and northa. the measures being proposed are some of the most restricted in the country. and yet you look at the numbers of people in north carolina. 56% of the state votes early. 70% of the people in north carolina support the current system. 75% say they voted early. could this strategy not backfire on north carolina republicans? >> absolutely, because the numbers that you mentioned are not just democratic voters. and so yes, it will impact all of the voters in our state regardless of party, whether they're unaffiliated. every voter will be impacted. and particularly those as you said, vote early. a number of our citizens vote early. they like voting early. it is convenient. they like voting on sunday. it is convenient. and so this is going to have a tremendous impact. and i believe it is going to backfire. >> ari, you are i believe in texas, where the redistricting is somewhat shocking. and that is the first piece of legislation that the attorney general seems to be working on, which is to sa
