hi, ari. >> hi, nicolle, thank you so much. welcome to beat. i am ari melber. we have breaking news in the derek chauvin murder trial. for the first time, we can report right now this jury is deliberating the fate of former minneapolis police officer derek chauvin. and deliberating right now whether to convict him of murdering george floyd. that's the first time we can say that because we are at this point in the process. 12 citizens sequestered, they're behind closed doors where they're supposed to legally remain until they can come to a good faith, unanimous decision. that's what they're charged to do. the state needs a unanimous ruling for a guilty verdict. the defense if it wants to find one way out has to just get one juror to hold out. gets you a hung jury or mistrial. the defense can try to get unanimous acquittal. many americans around the world are awaiting the verdict from this jury. this is the final instructions they got from the judge. >> during your deliberations you must not let bias, prejudice, passion, sympathy, or public opinion influence your

ari, let's talk about what we've seen play out.us has been interestingly enough on the health of the victim in this trial, george floyd. what do you make of today's proceedings so far? >> some of this, as viewers could hear, is very straightforward and it's laying the foundation of both what happened to him, its effect upon him medically and how he was processed and you can hear the most recent witness being quite technical and formulaic saying exactly what was shown by the paper record or you're asking me two questions, which one am i supposed to answer? it can even seem a little ordinary or tedious at times, but it's an important part of the trial because again, we have seen the prosecution continue to make its case voluminous evidence of witnesses what they argue when you drain out the jargon, this victim was mistreated on site, not given the help that anyone would need even after that mistreatment. that's why they're charging it as a murder. and then from there you saw what happened to him as then a person who had been killed.
