[applause] and last year we paid off billions more in debt, ratcheting it down to historically low levels. we took our rainy day fund to a record-breaking $1 billion. as a result, we have higher credit ratings than when we got here and that means even more savings to the taxpayer. [applause] so why stop now? i'll present a budget on friday that keeps this stewardship going, paying off more debt, and topping off our rainy day fund, so that we don't just own this house, but we leave the people's house truly in order. it was also republicans in arizona.part to documents obtained by american oversight, that it was at least five states where this happened, and an additional two states where trump electors did the same thing as the other five states, but they at least included this caveat that their electorate effigies were only intended as a backup in case trump's legal efforts to overturn the election subsidy succeeded in court. well, the story has been unfolding since then, and washington post and cnn have recently reported that the trump campaign was directly involved in planning an organizing this effort in multiple states, to submit these foreign slates of electors to try to overturn the election results and keep trump in power. but the whole reason we even knew that the january six investigation was looking into this forgery scheme, and that we know that the multi state forgery scheme was a significant part of the broader plot to overturn the election, is because of that initial reporting from nicholas woo at politico. well now i

first, we have some breaking news to share from arizona. that is where the state's democratic party has just formally censured senator kyrsten sinema. let's go to nbc's julie tsirkin who's going to fill us in on what all of this means. >> reporter: yeah, so the arizona democratic party actually just met behind closed doors this morning taking this formal vote to censure her. of course they prepared legislation last fall. if she were to go against what they say is democracy, if she were not to go forward and vote and do whatever it takes to pass voting rights legislation. they said in part in their statement, quote, while we take no pleasure in this announcement, the executive board has decided to formally censure senator sinema as a result of her failure to do whatever it takes to ensure the health of our democracy. i should note that the democratic party after senator sinema voted with republicans against that rules change that would have enabled a majority, a simple majority, 51 democrats to pass voting rights legislation this week. they

this is not just about arizona. 19 states passed 33 different laws that will make it harder for people to vote. so do you agree with democrats who call her vote a slap in the face, and should the blame go with senators sinema and manchin, or republicans who refuse to back voting rights legislation? >> republicans need to be held accountable as well. so we are in arizona, we held our own senator accountable, and we took this action because, frankly, our most committed democrats have raised their voices, not only this year, but all last year, making sure that there will be action taken on voting rights. so absolutely, republicans need to be held accountable, and there needs to be action from our federal -- from our senate to make sure that our democracy does not collapse. we know that when we make it harder for people to vote, the people who do have more accessibility will then be the ones in power and we need to ensure that everybody has access to the ballot box. >> you have talked about the fact that the next priori

can i ask you guys, why arizona? why here today? >> well, arizona in one sense is near ground zero. i say near because unfortunately there are 19 states that have passed regressive laws including our own state of georgia, and we believe that as it relates to getting this -- these bills passed that senator sinema has been one of the challenges, and so it made sense to come to arizona. some regressive laws we feel have been put in place that make it harder for people to vote. >> senator sinema took to the senate floor there and she fiercely defended her position on this saying that her fear would be that if republicans were to take the senate majority that there would be a reversal and that they would pass even more stringent voter i.d. measures. they could even roll back mail-in voting here. when you heard her floor speech, what was on your mind, and what is your response? >> would you like to -- >> no, you can go. >> first of all, i was just greatly disappointed that you stand in the way and have the gall to not realize that what is being done in all of these states, it's about the
