let's get to arjun kharpal who spoke about the decision.is is making pretty big headlines. >> this is an important piece of regulation in the eu for mica. it is the cryptocurrency industry is looking for with regulatory clarity. one of the big parts of the regulation is the fact it allows companies to apply for licenses and passport the services across the eu rather than getting a license in every country. i caught up with paul grewal, the chief legal officer at coinbase, to ask about what this means for the european expansion. listen in to what he had to say. >> coinbase has 15% revenue across europe. we had substantial presence. we have over 100 employees in ireland. i expect that number to grow as that business grows. for us, we will approach the opportunity in a responsible measured way and let our customers drive our investments and drive our focus on what opportunities to pursue t.. it is an exciting future. we think this is the right time and place to expand. >> europe is a big focus for coinbase as they continue to invest. crypto ha

tech report arjun kharpal is joining me from london. arjun, great to have you here. >> reporter: frank, the revenue coming in for the third quarter for netflix at $8.54 billion against the bigger than what the market expected. eps at $3.73 per share. bigger than $3.49. the big number is the net subscriber adds. much higher than the 5.49 million the market expected. investors were bearish going into the report. can the company continue to show strong growth to justify valuation? for netflix, yes, it gave the investors what it wanted. the 6$6.99 ad supported tier. they have 30% of new signups for the ad plan. on the password sharing plan, netflix is seeing low cancellations and healthy retention. the third thing was margins. netflix expects full-year margins at the top end of the range. in 2024, it expect margins to be between 22% and 23%, which is something investors wanted to see. finally, netflix hiked prices in markets like the u.s. and uk and france showing its pricing power. all in all, the company shows it remains ahead of disney.

we have arjun kharpal with more on the story. >> reporter: good morning, frank. uk competition and markets authority cleared the $69 billion acquisition of activision by microsoft. it comes after microsoft restructured the deal after the cme initially rejected microsoft's first proposal. microsoft would transfer the cloud streaming rights for all of activision's pc and console titles to french gaming company ubisoft. ubisoft will license the game out and sell under different business models. this was a concern for the cma because the deal would give microsoft a lot of power in the cloud gaming market and it was a concern that microsoft could take activision hit games like "call of duty" and keep it exclusive on xbox. to allay the fears, the cma says microsoft won't have a stranglehold on the rapidly developing gaming market. a word on cloud gaming. it is new and young. the idea is you will be able to stream games as you stream a show on netflix and it removes the idea of a hardware console and you can use a controller and your tv. this is a big step and allows mi

i'm really happy to say arjun joins us around the desk to break down all of the earnings.ne thing that stood out to me from microsoft, the revenue from their cloud computing united jumped, but around 3% of that was tied to artificial intelligence and investors seem to be encouraged by that. >> we may be starting to see a bottom here for the cloud division, but actually it was the fact that those early bets microsoft made in open ai and some of these ai applications are actually starting to be monetized and add to revenue. and when people look at microsoft and investors are looking at who's going to be the big ai winners, i think it's quite clear that microsoft has taken an early lead. you compare that to what you saw with google, cloud revenue miss. we saw a strong growth rate with cloud, but profitability is very thin. i'll just give you the comparison. google's operating income for the september quarter, $226 million. microsoft's operating income in the same period, $11.75 billion. so investors are paying here for microsoft and you saw the after hours high because all of

meteorologist lisa arjun is here to tell us more about that red flag warning.what does that mean for us? >> well, you know what he said when he said he was ready, you should be ready to with a to go bag for sure, because the red flag warning does mean that the winds will be gusty, coinciding with some offshore downsloping winds dropping the relative humidity allowing for the possibility of fires to start and spreading quickly. so as you have that to go, bag for an earthquake or those extra bottles of water, you should certainly have that throughout the weekend. and always around here, north northeast, winds 15 to 30 miles an hour, gusting to about 60 in the highest elevation. so just the bay shore there, not included. and the wind advisory starts at 8:00. mt. tam, mount diablo, where the winds are over 30 miles an hour, right now. we could see some of those weakened tree limbs down and also the power lines that could be an issue right now, not a whole lot of concern there. the winds there out of the north, they'll mix down to the surface, bringing the gusty win
