reporting live, armando trull. >> take a look at what's going on in montgomery county. ray chin is out with more on the conditions there. >> reporter: armando was talking about the roadways. here on 355 you can see the snow is getting to be covered and snow packed right now. it's been sticking for quite awhile for a couple of hours. he also talked about the temperature of the road. and i've got this nifty gadget here that shows the temperature. right now it's showing 21 degrees. of course, that is the concern when you're talking about these drivers traveling overnight, into teaching hours because the ground is so cold. i also want to show what you we picked up last night. this storm station. it is basically acting like a huge battery. hat a light, a flashlight, and it also has a radio. so it's all battery operated. check this out. you can even put your car charger in there and also a household charger. you can charge up your phone in case the power goes out w. so much snow that we're dealing with overnight and into saturday, that is the big concern with pepco and virgini

. >> armando trull is in forestville, maryland. kind of a storm command center there at the department of public works. armando. >> that's right this is the snowstorm center, and it got a huge screen with access the about 100 cameras, and from the last time we spoke, we now see that the snow is beginning to pile up. this is old branch at kirby. we've got garrett at morgan station. you can see a lot more snow there. paint branch, and that subpoena in the college park area. and the temperature is now about 26 degrees. that is the temperature on the pavement. that's what their computer records say. and that means that the snow is actually sticking. and that means this about 240 trucks and crews are about or have gone into action, and with us is jim. tell us about what's going on out there. >> what happened was about 6:00 we started seeing about one to two inches of snow falling, and it started accumulating on the streets. so we began plowing at that time, and we will be hitting the primary streets pretty much through the evenings. we w

we will go back to armando trull at the snow command center in northwestville, maryland. obviously a hub of activity there. armando? >> absolutely. things are starting to heat up at the snow command center if i can mix my metaphors. but let's look at the situations in prince georges county. you can see different pictures. nine cameras of different key intersections on the road in prince georges county. one of the things they are telling us is right now snow is starting to stick on the roads. and how do they know? because they have this nifty little thing here which tells them what the average temperature is on the pavement. right now 26.3 is the average temperature on the pavement. and that means that the snow is beginning to stick. at this point, a big meeting. that big meeting is starting right now. let's take a look. it is happening behind us. those are very important supervisors in the department of transportation. let's talk to susan hubbard and explain what are those folks saying in there? >> that's our senior command staff. they are discussing where we are at this p

. >>> with a look at conditions in prince georges county, we go to armando trull with more from the county command center in forestville. >> reporter: this receive command center where they are keeping track of the impact of the blizzard of 2010. they have cameras monitoring key intersections throughout the county and computers that have things like temperatures, 21 degrees fahrenheit. though it says it feels like seven. says it is foggy and the payment temperature is 24 degrees. and with us right now is prince georges county executive jack johnson. keep us up to date on what is going on? >> thank you very much for being here. i think the camera here tells it all. it is blizzard condition. it is whiteout. we can't see. many of the drivers can not see. so we are telling the drivers to, you know, do as much as they can but safety first and many of them are on the side of the roads now. our primary purpose today is to keep the primary roads half way clear so we can take care of public safety issues affecting our citizens. half of our equipment is down. we have a repair shops that are working
